'the vast and overwhelming majority of humanity '

That's probably true, but they'll need a separate thread to P. Hitchens

Religion grew in spite of science. Religion and the rest of the supernatural flies in the face of science.

Spot the man who doesn't read his own column:

Change is *sometimes* bad? This is the same guy who thought we should bring back imperial specifically because it was difficult and awkward.

I was going to post something about the hypocrisy of condemning television whilst being willing to appear on it whenever asked. But then I realised that, in his mind, it is probably a public duty, and that by turning up on our screens he is doing his selfless best to counteract all of TV's other deleterious effects.

Not to mention single-handedly fighting against the BBC's left-wing bias, which it repeadetly displays by giving a platform to the Tories, the taxpayers alliance, Migrationwatch, the BNP and er, Peter Hitchens

Anyone with ears to hear has known since the great balance of payments crisis of the Sixties that we were in bad trouble (we solved that problem by ceasing to care about it. It’s worse by far now than it was then).

Perhaps Hitchens should support that comment. On the face of it, it looks like unsupported rightist drivel....

This is because this country long ago chose to live beyond its means, and the blazing red Final Demands are now cascading on to the national doormat.

Well since the Iraq war..... :D

Before that UK ran a surplus....

If the Queen continues to delegate (abdicate) control over her armed forces to irresponsible and probably corrupt (as in "BP oil interests") ministers, then I strongly suggest that those forces should mutiny, come home, and institute a little interlude in the obviously inadequate democratic process, during which time they can be cleaning out the Augean stables.

This is old and a cheap laugh, but it's at Hitchens' expense so not all bad:

Take care to read downwards.

While I may thoroughly disagree with Peter, I do feel for him today.

I wonder if this will be cathartic for him, and allow him to find a positive voice.

I'd advise against holding your breath, Malcolm.

It's us humanists believing in the possibility of improvement rather than that religious predetermination stuff...
