A story by Meghan Keneally, who may or may not be American.
Eeriest Christmas party ever: Pictures show Hitler and fellow Nazis celebrating by a giant tree at the start of World War II
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... z1hflgvr2R

Starts with the following, rather startling, statement:
Quote:
LIFE magazine released a series of photos from a Nazi Christmas party in 1941, right during the beginnings of World War II when they sent Jews, homosexuals and gypsies away to their death at concentration camps.

Well, Meghan, WW2 began in 1939 (though the USA only entered it in 1941). In English we don't use 'beginnings' in that way. Death camps came later, not at the 'beginnings' of the war. Concentration camps and death camps were different things.

She seems to refer to the Nazis as 'a group' which is a bit odd.
Quote:
That picture, showing Hitler's hands grasped at his mouth as he sits quietly next to a peer, was the only one of the group that LIFE originally ran.

Probably means 'clasped'. His hands are folded in front of his chin as he sits, looking thoughtful. Not sure about the 'peer' - wasn't he the leader? Yes, thought so.

She refers to a 'Tannenbaum tree' - I've never seen that used in England, always a Christmas Tree for us, Meghan.

Typos, general errors abound alongside the worst kind of clunky English:
Quote:
He sold them to LIFE magazine in 1965, though they sill were not shown to the public until they were published in an online gallery in 2009 in an effort to memorialize the 65th anniversary of D-Day.

Not the quality one would hope for from a major defender of the truth.

Of course it really shows that sub-quality cheap junior journos or freelancers are simply whacking in the copy with little or no subbing.

She appears to be a recent graduate who has an internship at some new york paper I've never heard of.

One would presume she'll imrpove with experience.

I also present to you the work of Kirsty McCormack. Hat tip to @TheLondonGirl who has raised a hashtag on this journo and her rather depressing ouevre.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... z1hfrCH5Sh

Quote:
She's already appeared on the cover of two other magazines this month so it was only a matter of time before she did a third.

Kate Beckinsale looks sensational on the front of the January 2012 issue of Harper's Bazaar Arabia which is on sale at the beginning on next month.

Draped in designer clothes, the shoot is grown up and sophisticated as the 38-year-old actress shows off her natural beauty.

Quote:
Rather than look at the camera, in another shot she can be seen gazing at the floor.

Clumsy, naive and just a bit silly.

Quote:
Green with envy: Women everywhere are no doubt enviable of Beckinsale's natural beauty and slim figure

I hope Kirsty had a dictionary on her Christmas list.

She also manages to shoehorn a quote from another source into this badly re-written PR handout - about Beckinsale posing nude (she hasn't and says she has no plans to do so but might). Typical churnalism, top & tail & add a quote. Sad standards.

So that's all right then? Again with the little passive aggressive unexplained winnets.

Journalisted shows her as a freelance with 340 articles for Mail Online. You can get the flavour here.

Interesting mixture of American/UK English spelling in the captions. Apparently 'center' is OK but then again so is 'behaviour'. I'm confused.

The Nazi party took over the entire Löwenbräukeller beer hall in Munich and was decorated using tinsel, large Tannenbaum trees, and, unsurprisingly, the ever-present swastika

Use of redundant words. Shows shoddy shit. If the swastika was "ever present" how would it have been anything other than "unsurpprising" that it was there at the Christmas party?

I'm offering an explanation as to why there's a mix of US and UK language.

What the fuck is your problem.

Imbeciles. Can't stand 'em.

I'll put this as simply as I can.

In a British newspaper we use British English.
The Mail is a British newspaper.
Therefore the Mail uses British English.
Any other usage is an error and denotes shoddy journalism and poor sub-editing. Even if the journalist was born on Mars.

Now, was that too complicated for you?

Erm, it could be that your explanation is redundant, not required, and beside the point.

Just a wee guess, there.

I can't see why the Mail thinks thsi is news,

They like Christmas - Winterval's what gets theit goat.
They like Christmas trees - other trees can fuck off into newsprint pronto.
Their opinion on the Nazis - a matter of public record M'Lud.

Indeed. I can't see why the comment from my friend Harry Forder-Blackshirtz didn't make it.
