Er, don't you want these questions settled by a referendum in England? I presume Salmond would ask them. You're proposing to kick them out of the pound, or what? care to tell us?

And you're aware the referendum is in over 2 years time?

Wouldn't the obvious thing to do with that flag is actually put something in representing Wales?

And while we're at it, when did you last see anybody Irish waving a red saltire on a white background?

On a related, pedantic technicality: Yes it's true that St. Patrick's saltire has only tenuous links with Ireland and it was only chosen so it would fit in with the existing design.
But, and here's the deal maker, it is the emblem of a family that were originally from Wales.

So, problem solved and everyone is happy. No?

Correct. The St. Pat's saltire, even when was the UK of GB & Ireland, never really had much unofficial acceptance though except for its use of being flown on castles (to this day) for some strange reason. It's design is incorporated into some official emblems though like the crest for Queens University. The whole thing was very artificial as there's nothing to link St. Patrick's to the colours or cross of it really. The most prominent use of it these days is on St. Patrick's day in Downpatrick.

At least. It (and Cameron's stance) is annoying me, and I'm not Scottish.

Oh, don't start that.
If you do that for one shire, they'll all want one. "We demand the symbol of Cornwall !", and "If Cornwall is in there, we NEED the Green Squiggle of Rutland" etc etc etc.

You might get a shit flag, too. Dorset did. Reminds me of a cheap butter substitute logo.

It's like a Norwegian flag from a broken printer.

There is a clear distinction between Wales, a country, and an English county.

This whole business is affording my family huge amusement. Oh, how we look forward to the half-hour's robust jeering that is our reaction, every evening during the Six o'Clock news, to earnest shots of Dave and Co looking pained and telling us how we've got it totally wrong. Let's put it this way - if it's going to be a contest of cunning between Dave and Fat Eck, I know which I'd back.
