The state does many things. But I was not aware that it gave birth. The Bishops, however, in their delusion, seem to have forgotten this simplest of facts in their blame game.

It is young women, often girls, not the state, who push their babies into the world and into poverty. It is young women and girls who deliver babies into a world without a thought for how they are to be supported or brought up - other than by the state of course. Not surprising really.

Because in the lopsided 'entitlement world' of the Bishops, the Children's Society, Paddy Ashdown and Evan Davis[!], this is what they have learnt to do. No one judges. It is normal.

But even so the real problem, the one that everyone is still skating round is the rise and rise of the lone parent family - the words we dare not speak. This is why the Bishops' attack is so shameful. They have bought into - hook, line and sinker - that unwritten rule that demands we ignore the continued costs, economic, social and psychological, of state supported single mums. Not because they have fallen on times, but because this is what they chose. Our 'would be' moral guides blind to the cost of fatherless and fragmented families that the system of benefits and subsidies has been engineered to sustain, fail to see that whatever the increasingly complex hoops the state pushes itself, mothers and their children through, this drives, not mitigates, emotional and economic poverty.

A quarter of our youngsters are now reared in single-parent (fatherless) families. Most born in the UK are born outside marriage. It doesn't work – they don't thrive - certainly not at these numbers. It's good neither for man, mother nor child. But we are still encouraging it.

Set the taxpayer free, and watch the economy grow

If you really want to release the potential of the British people, then set them free. Let them be the drivers of economic growth achievement - they will be happy to take up the challenge, but you have to at least give them the chance.

You'd think three invasions by Germany in the last 150 years would knock a bit of sense into them...

Anytime I hear someone joke about the French, I just think 'Verdun'.

Just picture someone slagging off the British Army, and then sneering at the Somme. There'd be fucking outrage from every pot-bellied history-deprived mong in the pub.
