I was wondering this too. A quick Google suggests People Like Us as the most likely meaning.

Crematorium removes glass window featuring 4ft cross to avoid offending other religions (but don't worry, they'll have a MOBILE crucifix for Christians)

Bonus points for the cut out and keep "HOW CHRISTIANITY IN BRITAIN HAS BEEN ERODED BY PC JOBSWORTHS" panel?

Oh dear. If it's a non-faith (or multi-faith) rest grounds, why should one faith have precedence over another?

I'm surprised they didn't go with "£140k spent to remove cross from window", personally.

I notice there is a blue box under the story listing all the cases where they claim Christians have been wronged. They have only managed to come up with 7 examples, this doesn't really support the Mail line that there is a widespread persecution of Christians in this country.

Bingo!

I don't suppose it's worth pointing out the difference between a municipal crematorium and a place of worship.

I really ought to add something to the 'Mailite Code' about the importance of racing to the bottom at all times.

That nazi Germany quote caught my eye too, not just for the blatant Godwinism. For starters, Judaism wasn't the state religion of Germany, in the 1930s or ever. Second, nobody's setting fire to churches and rounding up people on cattle trucks. Third...well I could be here a while.

How it actually is a bit like nazi Germany is how the population are being fed a lie that they and their way of life are under threat, and that it is necessary to retaliate by being even more vicious than those supposedly doing the attacking.

Headline vs Story time again:
Quote:
Head teacher Julie Swanston said: 'There have never in the past been any issues or concerns from any parents, pupils or teachers in how we help to administer medication to children.

'In this particular case we have supervised the child putting on her medication and have been in regular communication with the child's parents and doctor.

'In normal circumstances when administering things like creams we would either ask the parents to administer them or, like in this instance, we would help the child to administer it themselves under our supervision, as long as we get prior agreement from the child's parents.

'I'm very sorry to hear there is some concern, and we will continue to ask the parents to come in and talk to us to see how we can address those concerns.'

The headteacher's final quote says it all - rather than speaking to the school about her concerns she ran straight to the press (or more likely a news agency who offer payment for the story and then pass them on). In my local journalism days, I'd frequently refer people like this back to the authority in question first and tell them, if there was still a problem, to come back to me. But unlike the Mail et al, my job wasn't to stir up trouble where there was none...

I don't quite follow that. Mailites make snap judgements based on the headline, which often has little connection with the actual "story". Reading the whole thing is not at all important.

I take it that this tosser and the (net) 263 people who think he's right see no irony with their comparing the "plight" of Christians in this country to that of Jews in Nazi Germany and the fact that they're exactly the sort of people who will start whinging when Christian's are asked to remove symbols of their religion used to identify them as such? I mean surely if this rancid streak of horsepiss was onto something the PC brigade/Nazis would be demanding the Christian üntermenschen be forced to wear corsses rather than remove them?

I should have explained better. Here's a couple of examples of what I mean by the 'race to the bottom' (it's got nothing to do with the fabled paragraph 19):

1. Pensions are under threat. The Mail constantly brings up the subjects of public sector 'gold plated' pensions, in stark contrast to (hardworking of course) private sector workers, who unless that have a private arrangement sorted out, are probably in line for zip. Rather than take this as a cue to campaign for better pensions across the board, the Mail encourages its readers to call for no pensions for anyone. If we can't have it, nobody should.

2. Britain is a very tolerant country when it comes to expression of faith. Ths angers some commentators, who point out that in countries such as Saudi Arabia, that level of tolerance would never be allowed. Rather than count their blessings that they live in such an open-minded and welcoming place, they call for Britain to become just as intolerant of other faiths than Christianity, as Saudi is of non-Muslims.

In both cases, rather than be glad for what we have, or strive for something better, there's this relentless pushing of the 'see how THEY like it!' line. I guess that the Mailite is miserable, and is only really happy (or should that be satisfied?) when everyone is as miserable as they are.

Hope that explains my use of words!

People like that would never dream of striving for something better, or making a positive impact themselves. Far too much like hard work when you can sit around sneering at everything, and pretend that this kind of base cynicism is some sort of profound inherent wisdom, all us other gullible fools don't possess. Littlejohn gave the game away a bit when said to someone who asked why he didn't go into politics if he hated the way the country was run so much, when he did a Q & A webchat on the mails site with some of the readers. He said that he saw a columnists role as sitting at the back of an audience chucking bottles at the person making the speeches.

I do think some of these people do live in a sort of spiritual black hole, and would like to drag the rest of us in as well. Perhaps out of malice. Perhaps they just can't see anything else but that black hole, and that everyone is just like they are.
