Quite. That was my initial reaction but I thought I might be courting the PC brigade so I kept schtum. On reflection, there must be one or two safe, sane and consensual - ehem - facilities somewhere there. I'll ask round.

If I can drag you all away from your S&M fantasies and back to the topic, did anyone see part 2 this week?
It continued to be schmaltzy but there were a couple of good moments.

The retired copper was made to see how hurtful his casual racism was. As one of the black family he stayed with said "He's not a racist, just ignorant" (I paraphrase).

The lady of mixed (White/AfroCaribean) race realised that she was, herself, guilty of racist attitudes toward Asians, reduced to tears, and vowed to ban racist remarks from her pub (which appeared to be frequented entirely by bigots).

The best bit for me though was at the end and the comments of the young white working class lad after spending a couple of days amongst the Muslim community. Not only did he acknowledge that Muslims are not all terrorist extremists, as he'd previously been led to believe, but he made the connection with his grandparent's generation. He spoke of the family values, neighbourliness, community spirit, generosity, ambition for their children and observed that his generation had lost all that and he wanted to emulate them. Hell, he even said that "they" (the Asian community) were "more British" than him.

For all it's obvious faults, I give the programme a thumbs up.

It sounds great.

Now you can imagine the responce it would have got if it were a BBC program, which it will not recieve because it was on C4.

11 out of 24. I'll have Spain, please.

Also: U in a cinema rating stands for UNIVERSAL. That is, absolutely bloody EVERYONE. Is that guff about anyone over the age of 4 written down anywhere? If so, then someone really needs to do some work on definitions.

Yeah, it is written down:
Quote:
It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.

If a work is particularly suitable for a pre-school child to view alone, this will be indicated in the Consumer Advice.

No, it seems to have gone. I think they just get lumped in under "U" these days.

Just looked it up. Retired in 2009 according to wikipedia. Probably wasn't headline news and I don't have an small children so it's no big surprise I missed its passing.

It probably didn't see that much use, either. I don't remember seeing many Uc-rated films or DVDs anywhere.
