It will happen before the end of this year. Legal challenge by tobacco companies allowing.

For me, if you cannot understand the clear and true warnings of harm due to tobacco then, if you are not physiologically brain damaged, tough shit. You deserve what you get (without the tobacco companies having to resort to shock tactics).

Still it was better in the good old days when smokers could be as anti social as they wanted....

As a smoker myself (not proud of it), it is my shameful duty to announce that - for once - this tat from Littledong may have some basis in fact after all. I just picked up a pack of 20 from Tescos and white shutters were firmly in place.

However, still doesn't alter the high probability that someone e-mailed it in Florida to let it know - "political correctness gone maaaaaad! Couldernmayekittupppp! Whurgh!" And I still refuse to accept without question the statement that it has a son in Potters Bar.

Same with Littlejohn when he talks about drinking.

You need a way to escape from lying to yourself and find other people, who lie to themselves too about the same things as you, so you don't feel like like a sack of shit.

Speaking your real mind .... Well that's too hard for some....

A fag break serves a similar purpose. Hard work never killed anyone... but the lying inbetween...

Looks like the pointless fucker's taking some more unannounced leave. And there was (hopefully) much rejoicing.

Yes but the poor lad only gets paid a million quid a year, you can't really expect him to have to write every week just for that pittance. Can you?

Maybe he's gone to Syria to do some proper journalism. Just to stick two finger up at MacKuntzie.

Just in case anyone is interested, I work on a tobacco journal and this white packet/no display stuff makes a huge psychological difference. People become much less attached to brands and become more inclined to give up, and it stops kids forming associations with brands in the first place. It's also heading off the cig. co's at the pass before they try their new tactic in the west - associating their brand's colour with social events. For example Marlboro have been trying to tie in Chinese red letter days with their fags and make it culturally normal to give a carton of cigs as a status gift. If they cannot naturally associate themselves with the colour red, they can't do this.

There's also one other aspect - buyers associate plain packaging with a cheap, own-brand item. This means they become much less likely to accept the price they have to pay for brand-free cigs, and look to give up from a financial point of view.

The cig. cos's will do anything to stop this because they know they have to get kids smoking to stay in business, and kids like logos, posh-looking things and looking grown up. Kids don't like plain white packets with plain text on that looks cheap and nasty. Which is why I really hope the Australian lawsuit against the bill fails.

Another Tuesday, another absence of the Scotch Egg-guzzling gobshite. Is it too much to hope that Dacre has finally given it its long-overdue marching orders?

Any road up. Here's a bonus feature!

Using up his annual leave as he is going to be a busy boy in the run up to November. No doubt he will volunteer to be their man on the spot in the Presidential Election, selflessly basing himself in a key swing state.

I was going to report him missing but I didn't know if I should contact the Met or the FBI!

Is it just a coincidence that he disappeared just before the launch of the Sunday Sun? He could well be on gardening leave prior to jumping ship.

It would be nice to think that Leveson had summoned him and he is busy trying to work out how to delete emails ...

The local pest warden might be a better bet.

I stand by my assertion that Dickie is completely innocent of hacking phones, illegal payments to police or detectives, taking part in cover-ups or anything like that. It's just too much like hard work for our Richard.
