Government's legal fight AGAINST the right to wear a cross at work brings accusations it is 'sidelining Christianity'

Not so much pro-Christian more anti-Muslim in the comments.

The Mail loads the bullets and the readers fire them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but:

1. The wearing is not and will not be illegal, it is the display that is in question
2. The icon itself, a cross, is not part of any requirement of the faith
3. Those who have been 'told off' for wearing it were punished for going against dress codes or did not follow the orders of those above

Correct?

Yes, but try telling the Mail mob that. You'd have more chance getting a blow job off the pope.

Hmm...

I'm really torn on this. With the guy and the company vehicle I can sort of understand why it's a problem - but I'm not sure what the thing with the symbol is?

I think it's a bit of a non-issue really, isn't it?

Argh :(

I used to think Delia was fairly cool, but in just a few words she's show herself for the idiot she must have been all along (any bets that she has a book coming out in a few months, or a new TV show?).

I'm done with Delia.

Militant is such an easy term to throw around when you don't want the orthodoxy changed, even when it is patently unfair.

Militant is such an easy term to throw around when you are a piece of shit.

The Arch-Moron of York, Sentamu, is now claiming that the government can't act to legalise gay marriage without the permission of the Church of England. I know that, even by the standards of the clergy, he isn't very bright, but marriage is a legal and not a religious state. What does he think that signing the register in the vestry is all about? Or what happens in Registry Offices, synagogues, mosques, Hindu and Sikh temples and hotels up and down the country?

And, of course, the usual mis-spelled fuckwittery in the comments...

Yeah, but the problem is not so much him spouting ignorance - it's him spouting ignorance in a position from which people will listen and perhaps use, and then when faced with the truth will go "Well, why would the Arch-Bishop lie to me?" and believe him instead.

Still, as some people have said on Question Time et al - in five, ten years, we'll look back on this and go "lol".

Sentamu is a shit.

When he wrote....

Quote:
Asking someone to leave their belief in God at the door of their workplace is akin to asking them to remove their skin colour before coming into the office. Faith in God is not an add-on or optional extra.

For me, my trust in God is part of my DNA; it is central to who I am and defines my place in the world. It informs my whole life, not just a weekly service on a Sunday.

Faith in god is an add-on and an optional extra. It is not a skin color.... Talk about not taking responsibility for yourself....

Oh... the irony of using DNA in that argument...

Like I said, he's thick as a brick. The average 7 year old understands DNA better than that. And no, I don't think he was using a figure of speech...

The whole gay marriage thing is making me scream and bite my tongue, not an easy thing to achieve. Word evolve all the time, the meaning changes, various people at my church, a very nice happy clappy liberal church seem to think no one calls civil ceremonies marriage currently.

Sentamu is a demagogue.

I’ll raise a flagon to Saint George and his dragon

Celebrating Englishness does not mean you are B.N.P.

Archbishop John Sentamu: Hell is an eternal maxed-out credit card. In heaven there are no debts

(Oh for the last one.... the CofE has made a tidy sum from credit however I understand you are a christian so irony is par for the course)

He is a demagogue for Jesus. I actually think he believes this shit though... putting him in the moron as opposed to the twat category....
