Even without the shit that's gone down, I'd say he was probably ex-Met. What do we know about him?

Why do I picture the following:

Mr Igo from Innerspace
Clarence Beeks from Trading Places
Al Neri from the Godfather movies
Lurch from Hot Fuzz

I don't get any of those references.

Tom Crone is the one I want to see go down.

Watch more films.

They were all menacing 'heads of security' (or in one case a trolley boy) despatched to do dirty deeds for their employers in the respective films.

Sorry DM, they're not buying into your angle on this one.

That one has disappeared.

Hmmm, in my capacity as Caroline I have to report they didn't have the courtesy to notify me. They manage it when they allege someone has complained. And this is the paper that witters on about the importance of free speech for the Press.

Couldn't happen to a nicer couple. I hope the court takes a Sun-like attitude to banging 'em up and chucking away the key.

Interesting that this now comes very close to Cameron.

I was just wondering when it was all going to drift in Coulson's direction. And thence to his subsequent employer.

Professor Tim Luckhurst referred to a "chilling effect" of Leveson.

I've certainly felt a bit chilled hearing about the shit all those cunts have done, that's for sure. Though I don't think he meant that.

It turns out he's the fuckwit who thought Rod Liddle had been stopped from getting the Independent editorship by a liberal mob.

He wants more selective education too.

Y'see I believe that Tom Watson was right, and to understand the way NI works you have to look to organisations like the Mafia, or more accurately its predecessor the Roman patron-client system.

Here, the patron is Rupert, often operating through lieutenants such as James, Rebekakakakakah or Andy. Their clients visit them, and bring gifts of horses or jobs/money. In return they are given gifts themselves, but 'favours' are requested, a blind eye turned, a vote cast, preferment granted.

Best example is Gove. He gets his stipend, and in return he does the occasional favour, be it facilitating Rupert's Free School business ambitions, or attacking Leveson, or voting in the way his patron expects.

What is frightening is that the Prime Minister of a supposedly first-world democracy is also a client of Murdoch. And that another one was godfather to his grandchild.

A good cartoon in the Telegraph today about the arrests.

Just reading here:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/cr ... 64512.html

The arrest was apparently over the subsequent cover-up, not the original alleged hacking or bribery. Fuck me, I'm starting to think the Po-po are finally taking this seriously. Nah....

The more I read about this story the more I think that the best chance of securing a prosecution is to concentrate more on the subsequent cover up than the original offences. A lot of evidence has been destroyed or tampered with and some of the offences took place nearly ten years ago. The cover up is more recent and in many ways the fact that so much evidence has been destroyed would probably strengthen the case rather than weaken it. Murdoch has managed to distance himself from the original allegations of hacking but I think it would be a lot harder for him to claim he knows nothing about what has happened in the last couple of years.

I'm slightly worried that as a result of previous failings the Met might try and go for an all singing all dancing prosecution which could then quickly crumble when it gets to court.

THing is, it's getting very close to Rupert and sons now. Very close indeed. Pretty soon, the whole "Brooks is my top priority" thing will be out the window as his board will effectively give him the choice of losing control or cutting the whole UK tabloid arm adrift - and ultimately, the whole of his UK operation is peanuts to the US operation. Then it'll be interesting to see how loyal the lieutenants remain when the commander has clearly set them up as a human shield, and also it's a very real possibility that the UK press will be free of Murdoch-owned titles. And he might even have to sell BSkyB as a bonus.
