Heffer's article in tmrw's paper just popped up on the review of the papers on BBC.
Guess what? Sarko is like Napoleon!
That's the "real history" they did at his school. Like Toby Young and the Cavaliers.
Things we know about Napoloen:
* Not particularly tall (Though he made the cut as an artillery officer, so can't have been Lord Moynihan material) - "Sarko" also checks this box.
* Over achiever with the ladies - Check.
* Recognised as a great military general - Fails to match.
The Napoleon bits about being an Ex-Corporal, a bit on the short side, and invading Russia with an inadequate supply line seem a closer match for one of the Mail's favourite characters form history.
Apparently the height issue is something of a myth as he's meant to have been 5ft 7 which was about average for the time, so we're just left with the fact that he punched above his weight in his coital endeavours which is broadly true of any number of men of power.
I've done some study and it agrees that he was average height.
So what's the source of the "short" rumour?
Clearly a bit of bad press from cartoonists from the monarchies of Europe.
The effect is probably exaggerated when you march in company with Guard's who're 6' tall and wear bearskins.
I believe his Marshalls were also a tall bunch.
Failing that there's always.
