Glad to see we've got money to throw around on pointless ephemera.

Its painfully obvious what the government are trying to do with this. We'll all get our lovely personalised statements through, and the gung ho right wingers will demand we spend less on benefits. Meanwhile the sandal eating liberals will demand that we spend less on defence. The government will then cut/privatise both, because its what the public wants, after all. Cunts.

Tax statements to be tailored to your idiotic, tribal prejudice

TAXPAYERS are to receive a detailed breakdown of how their money was spent that is indvidually tailored to their cretinous world view.

So, if you're earning £15,000 a year some of the lowest contributions are for the EU, foreign aid, and the unemployed. Kinda blows a lot of right wing myths out of the water.

But, of course if you don't break welfare down people will assume it means the 'luxury' of benefits when it in fact the majority covers pensions.

Haven't the US right adopted similar strategies in the past? It's a fairly transparent attempt to soften people up for more cuts, but you just know a lot of people will swallow it hook, line and sinker.

Under the Mail article someone made a comment about being in favour of spending on the NHS but not wanting money spent on gastric band operations. From the figures available we don't know how much the NHS spends on such operations and more importantly how much giving someone the operation could save the taxpayer in the long term. If people become seriously overweight they will be unable to work or may take lots of time off worth through illness and a few years down the line could require heart surgery and other expensive procedures.

£10 a year to the EU if on £15,000.

Does that mean we'll see any less moaning about the EU for financial reasons (democratic ones are another matter...) when the EU funds regeneration in a depressed UK region?

I think not.

We already get this with our council tax (in a 20-page full-colour booklet, no less). I really could not care less exactly how much I contribute to the NHS to the penny, or how many pounds go towards school books or whatever. I just care that I am contributing to these things, and as long as the government as a whole is not overspending or spending badly, then I'm happy. The fact that last year £214.37 of my tax went towards Eric Pickles' lunch doesn't suddenly make me think how open and wonderful the government is

In theory it's not a bad idea. In practice though you know it's going to be open to abuse for political campaigning.
