Indeed.

I was under the impression that a lot of Halal meat was sold only though specialist companies, i.e. if you want Halal you go to a Halal butcher, so I can't see how it affects the majority of this country?

P.S. the RSPCA report seems to suggest no Kosher meat comes from this country as we have no facilities to prepare it in the correct manner, hence why the Jewish angle likely isn't represented in the Mail.

I am surprised about the RSPCA claims re Kosher meat as there is a London Board for Shechita established 1804 which features a list of licenced butchers.

If you're worried about your meat and veg it's the rabbis you need to avoid...

It would be pretty pointless to go to the trouble of halal slaughter only to then alienate your customers by not letting them know they can buy it.

I've always found it strange that the cretins believe whether or not meat is halal is a massive secret - its slaughtered that way so a specific group of people can eat it, if they don't know that it's halal they're not going to eat it so the meat sellers lose customers. I can see literally no advantage to anyone in "secretly" feeding people halal meat.

I've bought halal chicken mince in Asda. Prominently labelled as such. It was very nice.

As said before, it's not the mechanics of how the animal is slaughtered that offends these people (otherwise they'd be equally vocal over kosher food), but the Muslim connection. In that respect it's rather reminiscent of Sepoy soldiers and greased cartridges, and fears over body/soul pollution by consuming 'unclean' food. Not that they'd appreciate the comparison, I imagine.

At the end of the day, for the majority of us, meat is meat and if it's on a plate in front of us we'll eat it. It doesn't matter to most people, in real world terms, if it was killed by Ahmed, Frank or Herschel.

'Pull her by the ear, beat her by hand or stick': How the Islamic guide to a happy marriage advises husbands to treat their wives

Quote:
Why are there some Christian men who beat and sometimes even kill their wives if it's not allowed by the Bible? - Aliya, Almaty............................Aliya, darling you don't get it do you? If Christian men harm women it has nothing to do with religion, plus no Christian public figures advise men or women to turn to physical and emotional violence. So don't try to compare the two.

Nah... Christians just treat women as second class citizens... Expecting them to give birth to babies conceived through rape...

There is plenty of violence against 'women' in the bible. You just don't get it do you Lenka.

Not only violence but...

Quote:
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Ephesians 5:22-24

Abattoirs are not nice places, the animals demonstrate high levels of stress as soon as they enter as they can smell the blood. They have a pretty clear idea of what is going on. Is Halal cruel, well maybe, but the bleeding to death line is misleading, they are unconscious long before death.

Then there's the whole factory farming issue.

If you're genuinely bothered about animal cruelty don't eat meat at all, otherwise stfu.

But of course it's not about animal welfare at all.

Too true.

All "halal" means is "permitted" (as does "kosher") by religious dietary law. The meat produced is of course no different to any other meat except for a small technical difference in the slaughtering procedure and a bit of ritual prayer recitation accompanying the procedure.

It's actually somewhat pitiful - even laughable - listening to the "I'm no racist but..." racists desperately trying to cloak their virulent Islamophobia in completely bogus concerns for animal welfare.

Quite. They don't express concern at the conditions in which the animals are raised before slaughter...
