What Pastygate tells us about Cameron's Conservatives

Quote:
It pains me to find myself in agreement with all the chippy Guardianistas and lefty Times class-warriors and BBC apparatchiks who say that Cameron and his crew are a bunch of painfully, out-of-touch toffs who understand little and care even less about the travails of the squeezed middle trying to earn their crust. But they're dead right.

He misses the point.

Its not that donating to a political party is wrong. Its the notion that such donations are seen as a quick way to short circuit the democratic process.

and he thinks that there's nothing sordid in the rich buying political influence.

that's right, james. absolutely nothing wrong with a few mega wealthy individuals putting government ministers in their back pockets. nothing at all. the poor of course will never have the same 'clout' but - hey - that's life in this great democracy of ours.

I'd never paid too much attention to this obnoxious scrotum in the past but -fuck me- is he actually serious?

The jury's out on that one. I'd go with no, he's achingly inadequate and handsomely paid . As someone else posted way back in the thread, a member of the "unskilled middle classes".

Alternately, and having seen him on TV I'd go for this one, he's actually deranged. Or disturbed at least.

Quite possibly, never seen him on the television. Which is good, as I get the impression it's as enjoyable as phone sex with Joe Pasquale

I genuinely think if a billionaire were to offer Delingpole a big enough sum of money, he'd completely switch sides on global warming overnight. I don't think he has any opinions he forms himself - he simply has opinions he adopts as they appear to him to be the most lucrative at the time.

Radio Free Delingpole XII: the Twitter trials
Quote:
Welcome to the twelfth episode of quite possibly the world's most brilliant podcast: Radio Free Delingpole. My special guest this week is Abhijit Pandya, barrister at law, blogger, defender of liberty, and legal adviser for the freedom of speech charity Discourse UK.

In the sense of sex in a cramped, open phone booth where Joe Pasquale shoves the handset up your arse, yes.

It is not for the creator to decide if their work is brilliant or not.

If you have to tell people you think it is "quite possibly the world's most brilliant podcast", then it absolutely isn't.

Self praise is no praise - as a wise old teacher used to tell my class.

James Delingpole: Racist

Quote:
When is it socially acceptable for a white person to tell a black person he looks like a monkey eating a banana? For some of you the answer will be ‘never’; for others: ‘Oh my God. I can’t believe you even asked such a racist question!’ But I must confess that when my white tennis friend Glen made some quip on these lines to my black tennis friend Rodney at our class the other weekend, I found it funny.

I'd say it's shocking that an editor presumably proofed this article and thought it A-OK for publishing, but I also happen to know that the editor of The Spectator is Fraser Nelson.

the humour which exists between close friends is often very different from that which would be acceptable in any other circumtance, i think most people would understand this, however i also think most people would count publishing it in a magazine being one of those other circumstances.
(that, and close friends tend not to be preceded by the word "tennis")

He's a brave brave man. Like Liddle, Hitchens, Littlejohn etc. Such courage.
