Althea - if you were in a job they would legally have to try and be helpful if you have any long-term, um, conditions (sorry - I'm not really aware of what your issues are) - the Equality Act 2010 has provision for that. I hope that this would apply to workfare type shit, although sadly I doubt it. Still, might be some scope there.

Well, any long-term stuff is a possibility and is only a pipe dream right now. I don't think employers really go on possibilities with stuff like that.

One thing I did find, of interest, is that there's apparently no legal provision for Workfare, as in it doesn't exist as a legally supported form of work, unlike volunteering/apprenticeships/'proper' employment.

Puts me in mind of the electronic learning credits that the DfES were chucking around in the early noughties. No checks, no idea where the money went, went twice over budget in weeks as fraudulent suppliers milked the system. Run by Capita, as I recall...

Ministers end A4e contract for welfare-to-work scheme

The government has ended a contract with welfare-to-work company A4e after deciding that continuing would be "too great a risk", it has said.

Employment minister Chris Grayling said the Mandatory Work Activity contract to help up to 1,000 jobless people in south-east England find work would end.

The firm is the subject of a police investigation into allegations of fraud relating to government schemes.

An eighth person was arrested on Monday.

Seven other people are on bail until dates in late May, June and July.
