^^^ Yep, you have to be super-fit to row at any level. But I'll disagree with your mate about the other sport. I'd put professional cyclists on par with rowers - both velodrome and touring.
Not only do you have to push your body to the extreme limit but you have to be bat-shit mental.

I'm knackered after typing that, I'm going for a lie down.

I'd imagine street protests would be minimal, and aside froum a few nutty columnists in the usual papers, life would carry on as normal.

At the risk of fishing for a CotD award, I think most people would think "Good Riddance".

I'd think "I don't care how burninated you are, you still don't get inside my piss dungeon".

Mr S did row for England when he was a youth - gave him round shoulders and short hamstrings. Just saying ....

I've rowed for England. Well, it was more bickering than rowing.

 Oh, god. Laugh? I nearly did.

Black leather jacket, yep that one...

To be honest, the boat race is one of those events that just makes me go "oh, who gives a flying cat fuck?" and turn the telly over. As I see it, it's two boats full of over-muscled fucktards who see this as possibly the pinnacle of their lives and nothing else that'll come after it - marriage, childbirth, etc - will possibly compare. Yes, the people who compete in this are monied, they are privileged, yes they are complete wastes of existence in the grand scheme of things and this will be their one and only shot at glory,

Not necessarily - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympi ... -Race.html
