They weren't adverts. They were statements. They made no claims.
Where they came from is immaterial if they didn't advertise anything.
As they didn't advertise anything the Advertising Standards Authority, rather predictably, found nothing wrong with them in terms of its remit.

What they have achieved, through Boris's naked vote wheedling, is publicity they would not otherwise have had. Ignored, they would have had almost none. No-one who did not already agree with them would have had their views changed.

But they did make claims. They claimed that sexuality could be "corrected", if not in as many words. It was also advertising those two groups.

On top of that; it is not appropriate to politicise a public transport system.

And I've never said I agreed with the near-as-can-be God-denial messages on buses, assuming that's what you're referring to.

Keep your religious beliefs where they belong - in the house.

I think those beliefs belong on the streets - take the religious on, defeat their arguments with reason and fair debate.

I think there's a difference between bringing the debate into the public domain and plastering it on buses.

One method is open, the other isn't.

In what way is plastering a message on a bus closed?

They did not make claims - you inferred them.

Because you're making a statement that cannot be challenged.

What?!!??
Anyone who wishes to can challenge it.
As you are doing now in fact. :?

I'm sorry, but sitting on a semi-private forum with an anti-right bias discussing a homophobic advert is quite different to putting something in the public to be debated.

I agree.
So what are you going to do instead?
How are you going to get your views to a wider audience?

What can I do? There's nothing to be done in this particular case as the matter is largely closed.

But what do I do? Well, I blog and talk about the lack of LGBT representation in fiction and so on, so I do my bit. Sure, I'm not doing stuff like Stonewall, but I'm fighting my own little fight in my own little way.

Good for you.
I wasn't having a pop at you btw, just asking.

There are several things you could do, write to your MP, get a FB petition going, write a blog etc
But you need to get your position clear in your own mind first - what are your objectives?

I could do those, but I won't, because what's there to be done? The adverts in question have been pulled, that's what matters.

The ASA needs a royal boot up the arse, though.
