Revealed: How HALF of all social housing in parts of England goes to people born abroad

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... z1sCkmMpgc

Not so much a dog whistle as a 80 decibel klaxon.

Comments are as expected, with facts being heavily red-arrowed

Quote:
Did ANYONE read the article properly. 8.6% (less than 10%, for the mathematically challenged) of new social housing tenants were foreign. That's not exactly the UK being OVERRUN now, is it. Sheesh, some people.

How convenient that these figures emerge to coincide with the Tories launching their local election campaign. Field shows how stupid the headline is when he says.

Quote:
‘Yet, when the situation in London is examined, we find that, in reality, nobody has any idea how many new lets are going to foreign nationals and how many to British citizens.’

They also say these properties have been 'handed' to foreigners, the reality is that houses are allocated according to need so someone who has nowhere to live will get priority over people who already have homes but want to move from private rental to social housing. Often the houses that are given to immigrants are houses that local people have rejected because they are in a run down area.

Originally, the Mail's headline did not have 'in parts' in, so was just: "Revealed: How HALF of all social housing in England goes to people born abroad".

The article includes this:

Quote:
According to figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government, in 2010/11 8.6 per cent of new social housing tenants were foreign.

It's all based on some Migrationwatch 'research' which shows that in two boroughs in London, the figures are 43% and 45%. But, this data is not complete - the 43% figure applies to Haringey, the data only covers 66% of social housing lets.

This is the Full Fact verdict:

Quote:
So the basis for claiming "half" of social housing in some parts of the country goes to foreign nationals is weakened by rounding, incomprehensive data, a small number of areas actually showing this and the fact that they are clear outliers compared to the rest of their region.

The basis for simply stating that "half" of all social housing in England goes to foreign nationals is unfounded.

I take it every single one of the people who have made overboard comments on this (which is most) either drive 100% British manufactured cars, or don't drive at all then? No?...

When the Civil unrest comes, the Government will be scratching their heads wondering why.

- Sheeple, Essex, 17/4/2012 20:23

Yep, he's here again. "civil unrest" is a bit of a hars prediction given it's only a few bloody cars.

Just what cars do they suggest we use then, seeing as they are all such experts on "British" cars,

Quote:
There are several aspects to this that I dislike. Firstly that anyone should get preferential treatment and a special traffic lane. Secondly that they are using volunteers instead of taking people stuck on the dole and desperate for a few weeks work. Thirdly they should have used Jaguars, forget the eco bull, use a decent car

- dros, romford uk, 17/4/2012 20:11

Quote:
Well I'm not moving for one of them and if you so much as touch my car you will be stuck there all day whilst I slowly take details and call the police to attend. They have no chance our yobs will shut these lanes and good luck to them.

Added for the simple reason he is a cunt. I'll be adding his name to the pretentious usernames topic as well.

]Equates to £160m in cars. Even if they were only worth £20K each that would still be £80m. Build a few hospitals with that. Still, "we're all in it together".

- Dave, Brighton, 17/4/2012 19:46

Really? Does it? Can anyone confirm this assumption, as Dave obviuously has no evidence with which to do so.

Quote:
Fine cars indeed. Hundreds of thousands pumped into the German economy, which is good for them, but not for us! What a tremendous waste of money! What's wrong with the bus or the tube? Aren't all of the politicians trying to get everybody else to use public transport? Where's my luxury BMW? Wonder what I have to do to qualify, probably introduce some daft taxes and charge people £250,000 for dinner.

- JK, England, 17/4/2012 19:32

Let's look at this for a moment. If things were reversed, if our athletes were taking part in an olympics elsewhere and the press decided to make a point of "informing" us that they had to use public transport, what sort of responce do we think that would get?

Quote:
A broken down car or two in the limpic lane should do it. A few missed races might get the point across

- Me, North East of what is left of England, 17/4/2012 19:23

Great idea. Never mind how embarrassing, pathetic, rubbish and otherwise bitter and useless we would look to the rest of the world if that happened, but the only affect this kind of action would have on the games would be to cause anger, annoyance and widespread complaint from all those taking part. Never mind that though Me, as long as you enjoy yourself "sticking it to the man".

Quote:
Team Adidas and Team BMW when will they pick Team GB. I will only support a team wearing my countries colours not Germany's colours and Germany's cars

- Me, North East of what is left of England, 17/4/2012 19:17

The same arsehole again, this time confusing branded clothing and car companies with actual nations and teams. An Utter shitstick.

Quote:
Adidas kit made in Indonesia and now BMW cars. Another massive boost for the British economy. Come clean Lord Coe is there going to be any British involvement ?. - meerkat says, spain, 17/4/2012 17:57 Yes! we get the bill.

- Dave Bridge, Southport UK, 17/4/2012 19:16

No matter where the games where happening, this would still be the case. How much do they care about where all this sports kit gets made the rest of the time, it's still the same kit you know - made in the same places far away.

Quote:
I can remember when we used to scoff at the Russians having special lanes for their top bosses - and here we are! I understand this lot is costing TEN times the original estimate - why is it that I keep thinking of Enron when I here the Olympics or our 'Government' discussed? To paraphrase the comments of a motoring celebrity "they should be taken out and shot" - which because I am just a peasant may well get me arrested?

- Mike, Dorchester Dorset, 17/4/2012 19:04

You'll be informing the Mail of your arrest misery when it happens will you? Do get in touch with them for your sadface opportunity to prove freedom of speech has been destroyed in Britain, only I think the public must know this sort of thing happens every day!

Quote:
Two medals to anyone giving the fleet a good keying. The notion of VIP only lanes is an undemocratic disgrace George Orwell would have a field day - the Olympic spirit is well and truly dead.

- Tony , Worthing , 17/4/2012 18:34

Ding dong! First olympic 1984 reference in the online comments, what do I win?

Quote:
how on earth are VIP only lanes legal in a democracy???...............

- Name : anything except Pippa, Leicester UKnotOK(probably the highest taxed nation on the planet), 17/4/2012 18:03

UKnotOK missing the point somewhat. The "anything but Pippa" is a new addition for this regular poster, perhaps his old name was getting to easy to spot?

And for all their threats of mass protest, I bet none of these sheeple-rousers will do a thing about it, except moan to the Mail. And then they'll spend two weeks doing nothing but watch the Olympics.

Ffs Jaguar hasn't been British since 1989!!
Since 2008 it's been Indian - I wonder how that news will go down with the aptly named Dross.

A genuine olympic 1984 reference:

I have most of the kit my brother was issued with when he was selected to go to Los Angeles in '84. All that luvverly "Great Britain" cycling kit with labels boldly saying "Made in France". 8)

I daren't tell the Mailiacs cos I don't think the NHS could cope with a sudden epidemic of exploding heads.

I hate going shopping it is like I'm in a foreign country, everyone speaking different languages; not to mention can't understand the doctors, nurses and people serving me coffee. Why would anyone want this, they never asked us? And where can I move to, to be with people from my own country? I am a minority in my own country. And why did all this happen, because everyone was fearful of what happend in 1945. I wish those in power would think ahead before they make huge mistakes. reminds me of cane toads in Oz ... now there is no going back... so we must all be unhappy with our lives here!
