You just beat me to it!

Keep your guard up: There was no kid-glove treatment for London's working class boys

That's funny, I seem to remember the Mail being appaled quite recently that children were doing mixed martial arts.

Kids beating the shit out of each other in the olden days = good.

Kids beating the shit out of each other today = bad.

Cue several dozen comments along the lines of:
Quote:
Playing on these kinds of thing made me the man I am today. I broke all my teeth, lost an arm and both eyes, but those days were the happiest of my life.

Incidentally, is this comment (the third best-rated) meant to be taken seriously?

Quite a few comments from people saying they broke their arm, knocked out their front teeth, or split their heads open falling off stuff like this, but the jouranlist cites the fact that nobody in the pictures looks injured as proof that this was all perfectly safe. Brilliant job.

Anyway, am I imagining all the playgrounds with swings and climbing frames about today? And the adventure assault courses? The reason there aren't fiteen kids hanging off every swing these days is more likely that there are so many more other ways to play.

Nah that's a shot at the Mail's pandering to their readers in Thailand with a bit of underage upskirt.
That name looks like a joke to me as well, but it's going to take someone cleverer than me to work it out.

How good old Dunkirk spirit sank elf 'n' safety at the Queen's jubilee pageant
They saved thousands at Dunkirk - but were told they could carry only SIX passengers each in the Queen's jubilee pageant. So have they surrendered? Not a chance...

This one comes complete with a you couldn't make it up pose.

Then an amazing thing happened: an outbreak of common sense. The Thames authorities, the pageant organisers and the skippers sat round a table, talked it through. To their credit, the river authorities were prepared to listen to people who knew what they were doing. The skippers, in turn, acknowledged that packing the Thames with 1,000 boats is not without exceptional risks.

The result: an easing of the restrictions. The skippers sailed away in high spirits.

There was a similar result last month for the team who want to salute the Queen in a waka, a Maori war canoe. Initially, the fluorescent bib brigade sucked on their pencils and shook their heads. This mighty dugout with its strapping Kiwi crew might be fine in a Pacific swell but it would be too risky to chance an afternoon on the Thames.

Once again, though, the pageant organisers sat down with the authorities and the ban was reversed. Good sense had prevailed.

As usual, a restriction imposed by event organisers, which in this case has been dropped. Nothing to do with the HSE.

Remember the Marchioness? The Dunkirk little ship that was run down in the Thames in 1989 with the loss of 51 lives. What wrong with not wanting to risk a similar disaster during the Jubilee celebrations? Or at any time.

I'm confused now.

Surely the correct response to an 'elf n safety' ban is to pose outside/holding the offending object with a 'Sad Face' and ensure your picture is in every newspaper.

Not contact the organisers and discuss the case in order to come to a reasonable compromise?

School health and safety guidelines slashed from 150 pages under Labour to just eight in Coalition red tape purge

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... purge.html

When the first kids start dying in accidents, the Mail will be out looking for scapegoats.

When the first middle-class, white kids start dying in accidents, the Mail will be out looking for scapegoats.

I know it was never really banned, but I would love to see the reaction of the Mail if a kid were blinded whilst playing conkers.
