Some guy smoking a joint in the '70s, before doing some weird shadow-puppet kids nativity? OK :?

They could have jazzed this article up with an 'enlarge' picture of the Tegan actress, briefly quoted there at the end.

Has the BBC banned comic Sacha Baron Cohen's Dictator character from its shows?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... shows.html

No.

Quote:
Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen claims the BBC have placed a ban on his latest character from new film The Dictator.

The 40-year-old alleged that top TV and radio shows have all mysteriously pulled out of talks over interviewing him as Colonel Gaddafi-style leader Admiral General Aladeen.

He claimed to have had interest from The Graham Norton Show, The One Show, Newsnight and The Andrew Marr Show before the 'blackout'.

Cohen also said shows on Radio 1 and Radio 4 had refused to let him appear as Aladeen, telling The Sun - in character - that the broadcaster was 'victimising little old me'.

Is this the most pathetic BBC bash ever? Baron-Cohen's character is clearly based on Gadaffi, who hated the BBC, and Baron-Cohen is obviously just trying to come out with the sort of things Gadaffi might have said. Despite the disclaimer/explanation from the BBC...
Quote:
But a BBC spokesman told MailOnline there is no ban, saying the comedian's claim was 'tongue-in-cheek'.
... there are still some rabid Mail readers prepared to believe that the BBC might have been considering interviewing Baron-Cohen in character on Newsnight. The stupid, it burns!

Nothing's funnier than middle-class sitcoms (even if the joke's on us)

Literal PLU in the headline. It's actually a bashing of the controller who suggested too many of the Beeb's sitcoms are middle class. The Mail's hack, and its readers, wilfully misconstrue this as 'The BBC is going to ban the middle classes from all of its sitcoms.'

Yeah, sounds like he's leaving the door open to sitcoms like Porridge, Steptoe and Son...

I think there is one, but I can't remember what it's called. It's American. I think. It aired on an obscure satellite channel.

Your point wins!

So much for BBC cuts! Norton's pay soars 40% as he makes more than £2m in presenter fees

Get ready for the vs Graham Norton thread.... or is there already one?

Does it?
Sounds to me like they're just lining up Graham Norton to replace Jonathon Ross as their new "over paid BBC" hate figure, his sexuality will just be a bonus to the Mail.

Well they've never been too fond of gays on TV shoving their sexuality in our faces...as it were.

Not that I think he does that, but there are plenty who find him unpleasant because they think he is too obvious and shameless with his sexuality and that it's immoral to see it on TV and will turn kids gay. Mostly the type who read the mail.

But the homophobes have always made an exception for gays in the entertainment industry, even back in the days when it was illegal. Think Charles Hawtry, Kenneth Williams, Danny La Rue, Larry Grayson and Kenny Everett all beloved entertainers whose campness would not have been tolerated in other careers.

BBC snookers itself over jobs quotas as it is forced to draft in Scottish workers for Crucible coverage
Scottish staff relocated to England and put up in 'expensive hotels'
Former English crew who had built up a specialist knowledge working on the programme were sidelined

An article which already looks to be having the desired effect:
Quote:
I think the BBC is OVER-REPRESENTED by every country around the world. Every time I watch the BBC and listen to their presenters I hear every accent except English. We have Irish, Scot, Welsh and many others look as if they were born all over the globe. I can't believe a broadcaster in any other country would do this.

Under rules enforced by Ofcom, public service providers, such as the BBC, comply with a quota for the number of workers they employ from outside London.

So nothing to do with the BBC then.
