Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen claims the BBC have placed a ban on his latest character from new film The Dictator.

The 40-year-old alleged that top TV and radio shows have all mysteriously pulled out of talks over interviewing him as Colonel Gaddafi-style leader Admiral General Aladeen.

He claimed to have had interest from The Graham Norton Show, The One Show, Newsnight and The Andrew Marr Show before the 'blackout'.

Cohen also said shows on Radio 1 and Radio 4 had refused to let him appear as Aladeen, telling The Sun - in character - that the broadcaster was 'victimising little old me'.

But a BBC spokesman told MailOnline there is no ban, saying the comedian's claim was 'tongue-in-cheek'.

Nothing's funnier than middle-class sitcoms (even if the joke's on us)

Literal PLU in the headline. It's actually a bashing of the controller who suggested too many of the Beeb's sitcoms are middle class. The Mail's hack, and its readers, wilfully misconstrue this as 'The BBC is going to ban the middle classes from all of its sitcoms.'

This is travesty of the truth. The real reason it was taken off was because it portrayed a traditional family unit and not a single or same sex "family" unit.

Well they've never been too fond of gays on TV shoving their sexuality in our faces...as it were.

Not that I think he does that, but there are plenty who find him unpleasant because they think he is too obvious and shameless with his sexuality and that it's immoral to see it on TV and will turn kids gay. Mostly the type who read the mail.

I think the BBC is OVER-REPRESENTED by every country around the world. Every time I watch the BBC and listen to their presenters I hear every accent except English. We have Irish, Scot, Welsh and many others look as if they were born all over the globe. I can't believe a broadcaster in any other country would do this.
