No fewer than five articles today plugging the Daily Mail's spiritual sibling, FHM, and its 'Sexiest women in the world' publicity stunt. FHM's view of the world is almost as parochial as the Mail's: of the 30 women 'honoured' by the magazine as its favourite fap objects, one is French and one Barbadian, but the overwhelming majority are British or American.

I'd probably have bought one, if I hadn't upgraded to an HTC One X last month. :(

Actually not blatant, as I doubt many people read the whole article, which ends.

Meet Mr Perfect: New research says he earns £48,000, drives an Audi and always rings his mum. These men (almost) fit the bill!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/artic ... -bill.html

Quote:
Most women would agree that there’s no such thing as the perfect man, and that true love is all about chemistry and the art of compromise. But there are some things nearly all of us desire in a man — that’s if a survey of 2,000 British women is to be believed. So what actually constitutes Mr Perfect?

According to the research by clothing store Austin Reed, there are 30 boxes a man must tick to be a modern-day Prince Charming. The 2,000 women questioned agreed Mr Right eats meat, drives an Audi and earns around £48,000 a year. He’s also 6ft tall, has short, dark hair, brown eyes and stylish dress sense. He is clean-shaven and has a smooth, hair-free chest.

Mr Perfect also has a deeply sensitive side — he rings his mother regularly, tells you he loves you only when he means it, and will admit it when he eyes up other women. We found four men who fit the male perfection bill and gave them a grilling in search of any chinks in their armour. . .

I'd be very surprised if the DM journalist had much input into this aspirational bullshit. The four men "chosen" all seem to be wearing Austin Reed clothing. It seems like an attempt to align the Austin Reed brand with and make it appeal to a certain type of rich, aspirational, Audi driving, Mens Health reading type of bloke. Their list of "ideal man" qualities are below:

Quote:
6ft tall
Muscly, toned and athletic
Brown eyes
Short, dark hair
Smart dress sense
Stylish
A beer or lager drinker
A non-smoker
Wears smart jeans, shirt and a V-neck jumper
Gets ready in 17 minutes
Earns around £48,000 a year
Wants a family
Loves shopping
Eats meat
Watches soaps
Clean-shaven
Smooth-chested
Enjoys watching football
Drives an Audi
Educated to degree level
Earns more than you
Jokes around and has a laugh
Sensitive when you are upset
Tells you he loves you only when he means it
Admits it when he looks at other women
Holds a driving licence
Can swim
Can ride a bike
Can change a tyre
Rings his mother regularly

I'm already doing pretty well at not meeting any of these, but the Mail's article actually makes me want to burn my degree and driving licence so that I can score even lower on their silly list (which doesn't mention intelligence or personality by the way). It's also quite impressive how they try and push home the subliminal "buy our clothes" message by putting the same thing in the list three times: "Smart dress sense", "Stylish", "Wears smart jeans, shirt and a V-neck jumper".

That list is silly even by pointless survey standards. I expect some of the survey questions required Yes/No answers, along the lines of 'Would your ideal man know how to ride a bike? Yes or No?' I can't imagine anyone would answer no, because it's a skill with no downside. Mind you, I've probably spent more time thinking about the survey questions than whoever made it up.

I scored six-and-a-half, by the way, excluding the questions about being clean shaven and smooth chested. I'm nobody's ideal man :(

The inclusion of 'Earns more than you' is the most depressing thing I've read today.

I noticed "big dick" wasn't in that list. I thought that was part of the package, or at least they believed it was?

Great. I always thought I was the ideal man and now it turns out I'm not. FFS.

Althea - you're not helping.

Not doing themselves any favours with those poses

That list is mostly 'meh' but it conjurers up a bizarre image of a man who likes to gossip about TOWIE while out shopping with his lucky lady. Then it's off for a his n hers waxing session, once he's changed back into his 'smart' jeans (wtf?) it's a quick phone call to his mum before you whizz off in the Audi to a bar where everybody crowds around to hear his life and soul of the party routine.

Sounds grim as fuck, think I'll give it a miss.

I'm happy with it, and chose it mainly for the large screen. I think of it as a small tablet rather than a large phone.

That's it, I'd better bin Mr Fozzy, he doesn't own any V neck jumpers.

Little Bo Peep seeks soul mate, must like animals and quiet life: Pretty shepherdess, 26, who rejected modern living to run remote farm is lonely

She rejected modern living to such an extent that she has her own website and has featured on Countryfile, on Radio Four, in Metro, the Guardian, the Hexham Courant, and the Daily Mail last month, and has her own book deal.

She now also has a few dozen propositions from salivating Mailites.
