It's not that high. Doubt it's even half that.

Currently £145.50. But not, of course, payable on a per head of population basis.

Indeed. So when you factor that in, you've still got to be talking... what, £3-4bn at most at a generous guess?

You probably won't be surprised to hear that Peter Mullen agrees with Boris:

Quote:
It was nice to see Boris sounding off about the BBC – the Biased Broadcasting Corporation. "…Statist, corporatist , defeatist, anti-business, Europhile and above all overwhelmingly biased to the Left," he called it. It is all of those things and more besides.

A few weeks ago there was one item on Radio Four which typified the unspoken prejudices of the Beeb. Lord Healey was reminiscing about his delightful conversations with Iris Murdoch at Oxford in the 1930s when they were both members of the Communist Party. "We had such a jolly time as we all sat around talking about Uncle Joe." (If you use your imagination, you can hear the juicy lugubriousness of Denis's tones).

Uncle Joe was, of course, Stalin who slaughtered at least 40 million of his own countrymen and, out of his paranoia, purged almost everybody he considered a rival. I wondered at the time what the reaction of the metropolitan-chic cultural Marxists who run the Corporation would have been if a different couple of people had reminisced about how they too had sat around in the 1930s, when they were all Fascists and "talked about Uncle Adolf." Of course it would never have come within light years of the air waves.

The BBC's mindset is utterly predictable.

Apart from Boris's description of them, they are, regarding the USA, against everything that great nation does to defend freedom, but hysterically in thrall, like teenage groupies at a rock concert, to the slurry end of American popular culture.

They believe that Palestinians are always a decent people cruelly dispossessed by Israel – which they regard as a pariah state.

Care is always taken not to offend Muslims or Islam in general. (One can't help thinking there is an element of self-protection, not to say cowardice, in this). Christianity on the other hand is relentlessly criticised and satirised. They allowed thousands of blasphemous slights on God, Jesus and the Blessed Virgin in Jerry Springer: The Musical alone. And the ensuing 14000 complaints all went unheeded.

Then there are the awful "entertainers" and "television personalities" (that oxymoron) earning footballers' wages for talking filth on TV. And the pig philosophy side in the culture wars, generously represented by a blast of rock music every half hour on Radio Four.

The scandal is that we have to pay, on pain of penalty, for this bias and muck in the tax called the licence fee. Might as well call it the licentiousness fee.

Licentiousness? Mullen ought to know a thing or two about that, the frothing loon.

Quote:
Mullen was censured in 1989 by the Church for committing adultery with a parishioner, and as a consequence had to resign from this incumbency in Yorkshire.[2]

Cultural Marxists. Yawn.

That must be why they've got all those programmes on about buying houses.

What does he make of other channels? Are Sky and ITV better?

Getting a bit close to home there.

I've actually lost count of the number of radio programmes about the Mitfords there've been over the last few years. Many have, I'm sure, included anecdotes about taking tea with Uncle Adolf in person.

Johnson met Brooks the day after she was arrested.

He's a really lovely chap, isn't he? Aren't we lucky "character" was the defining issue of the election?

I'm sure he's given one of those speeches about justice.
"Less concern about the offender and more concern for the victim".

Nice to see that Leveson hasn't completely derailed the magic roundabout.

And more evidence of the left-wing bias at the BBC where Harri was a political correspondent for some years...

In response to a Tory 'question' stating that the vast majority of cyclists skip red lights, BoJo claims that in 62% of KSIs involving cyclists, the cyclist was breaking the law.

"Despite repeated requests, neither City Hall nor Transport for London has substantiated Mayor Boris Johnson's claim"

http://lcc.org.uk/articles/mayor-unable ... ng-the-law

Pro cycling groups actively came out against Boris, given his failure to help cyclists and stop prioritising "traffic flow", maybe this is payback?

In the 2008 campaign he said bendy buses slaughtered cyclists. They hadn't slaughtered any at all.

In spite of this sort of shit, some people conclude he should be Prime Minister. Me, I tend to reckon a Prime Minister might get picked up on it. See Cameron's pasty. This is a much worse piece of crap.
