Jeebus, I thought "Zanuliebore" was as bad as it could get until I saw the top-rated comments:

That was very nearly rock bottom for Letts and there's plenty to choose from. No, his worst article was when The Mail was pushing the 'MMR vaccine gives your child autism. Fact.' angle and he wrote an article about the awfulness of having a child with autism (which he has} but in his case the autism spectrum presented itself before any vaccinations. Sometime shit happens Quentin. The fact that he used photographs of his child to prop up the lies that the Mail was pushing was a bloody disgrace. Git.

The only "brilliance" was the number of kiloLumens being emitted from his shiny fizzer.

Old Bercow's ruining Parliament by getting ministers in to explain matters of public contraversy. I mean, surely the PM should be allowed to walk around doing photo-ops.

Fuck me.

Someone a bit ignorant of the role of speaker there.

In my day job as a sketchwriter, I am occasionally assailed by minority nutters and by my victims' chums for being 'sexist', 'homophobic', 'misogynistic', 'xenophobic' and so forth. What they actually mean is 'disobliging', to which I plead guilty. I mock. I tease. I take the rise out of politicians and society's glad-handers.

I try, in words, to do what political cartoonists do with their drawings. The cartoon has a long and sparky history in British politics. Think of Hogarth with his merciless, rightly indignant depictions of Gin Lane. Think of Gillray with his satirical art in the 18th century which tweaked the snouts of the rich and powerful. Think, today, of Steve Bell in The Guardian, who loves to depict David Cameron wearing a condom over his head and who often drew poor John Major with his underpants outside his trousers.

Vicious? Of course. That is the whole point, just as it was with TV’s Spitting Image. But sometimes it can be funny. Sometimes it can be necessary.

Caricature may be unfair — it is, by definition, an exaggeration — but it gives vent to widely-felt irritation with or contempt for certain public figures.

This talk of freedom is all very well, but virtually any attempt to call out some of your colleagues doesn't see the light of day. That ghastly man from The Sun, the over-sensitive Hitchings and the ever florider ex-pat Lidljohn spring to mind . You will note that such is this paper's devotion to freedom of the press that I've had to spell their names incorrectly to get past the machine that looks for them and blocks them if they are spelt correctly.

How is drawing Cameron with a condom over his head "'sexist', 'homophobic', 'misogynistic', 'xenophobic' and so forth"? That's the point: it isn't. Steve Bell can be disobliging without inveighing tired prejudices. Letts cannot.

As for comparing himself to Hogarth

I wouldn't even elevate the title of what he does to that of "sketchwriter". Who the hell does he think he is? Trying to sound like a controvertial maverick when in reality he is an oppinionated, pompous dickshit.

Compairing yourself to others will not fool anyone mate, no one with a tenth of a brain won't spot what you are trying to do.

I have also noticed recently that you connot rate comments from an Android phone any more (or at least not mine).

Very annoying when you see some of the twattery people come out with. Like the guy who replies to a comment stating that insults can hurt by reminding them of "sticks and stones".

I hope his kids never get bullied with a supportive parent like that to back them up, but if they did I bet his oppinion would change pretty sharpish.

His innate gift for satire is certainly apparent whenever he appears on HIGNFY. I'm surprised they kept asking him back, given how he overshadows Hislop and Merton so effortlessly.

The only way that makes sense is if Tony Blair has refused to pay for a subscription to the Daily Mail, otherwise it's just more unintelligible bollox.

Don't know why this is in the red, seems fair enough to me:

Well you didn't have to be Nostradamus to see that one coming, did you? As comments posted yesterday in the 'phone hacking' thread will bear out.
