Spot the stock response:-

Quote:
Prime Minister David Cameron backed Lady Warsi, who insisted her expenses claims were "both in accordance with the law and the spirit of the rules".

Quote:
Speaking to ITV News during a visit to Malaysia, she said: "I take these allegations very seriously; it's why I said right at the outset that I would fully co-operate with any investigation.

"I believe that being a member of the House of Lords is a privilege. I take that privilege seriously. It's why I have always ensured that my conduct, including in relation to expenses and allowances, is both in accordance with the law and the spirit of the rules."

Does that give Warsi a way out? the advisor could say she told her she'd clear it with the landlord but forgot?

I'd be amazed if anyone thought it worth going out on a limb to back her up, mind.

Mailites must be really confused by this.

I dont think the former really counts as a plus point amongst the DM readership any more. Dave and pals tend to get a kicking in the comments nowadays.

Because they're not real Tories, they're all socialists. Quentin Letts said so.

Mind you, she's a Baroness and an MP and stuff.

That's man's work, that is.

Not an MP in the normally understood sense. She's a member of the house of lords. MP normally refers to members of the commons.

Stood for Dewsbury in 2005, lost, controversially. She was accused (I think correctly) of a homophobic campaign.
Having shown that she was unlikely to be elected any time soon she was ennobled in 2007, straight into the Shadow Cabinet. Made Baroness Warsi of Dewsbury because she couldn't win it in a democratic contest. She's also made sympathetic noises to the BNP (she 'understands how they feel').

Spare her no tears...

In other words, she's a bag of hot air and a waste of time and space?

Anyone think paying your mate hotel rates for staying in their spare room is within the spirit of the rules?

The Tory vote share in Dewsbury went down in 2005. To be fair to her, that might just be down to racist cunts. BNP up 8.6%

When you put it like that it almost makes it sound like she's done something less than proper.

Meanwhile Tories were attacking labour's Tokenism of all women shortlists and placing black candidates in winnable seats.

Warsi's defence seems to be that it happened four years ago when the rules about Lords expenses were not as strict has they are today, the main weakness with this defence is that if it did happen four years ago the person who received the money from Warsi should have declared it to the inland revenue by now.

In reality the inquiry into all of this is unlikely to reach a verdict before September by which time Cameron will have carried out a reshuffle and Warsi will no longer be in a senior position in the party.
