Since when has anyone referred to as a pikey ever needed to be sheltered from rough language?by Melissa Kite
The fuckers have changed the headline since I saw this this morning - it originally said "Since when has a pikey ever needed to be sheltered from rough language?"
Quote:
Pikey comes from the word pike, meaning toll road. Nothing else. Nothing derogatory. It is simply a short hand to describe a person who lives on the road.
Yeah, because everyone who uses the word "pikey" is fully aware that it's derived from an ancient word for a toll-gate.

A lot of other so-called racial insults are the same, including one, which I won’t mention because I can’t, which simply derives from the name of a country.
If it's so inoffensive, Melissa, then why are you not allowed to write it? It's "paki", isn't it? And if this wanker honestly believes that that word is just an innocent shorthand for 'Pakistani' then she is fucking deluded.
Quote:
If you ask me, these short forms aren’t real racial insults at all, just words invented by kids to describe each other and make sense of why they look a bit different. Like ‘shorty’ and ‘fatty’ they may be childish and cheeky, but they have no place on a police charging sheet for a hate crime.
Oh, right - so it was just a bit of cheeky childish fun when the corner shop near my house had the words "pakis out" spray-painted across its windows. How silly of them to have taken offence.
Quote:
Quite clearly, however, the ‘n’ word is different. The ‘n’ word is a real insult, because it is a term once used by those who actually, physically and in many terrible ways abused black people.
Oh, so a word has to be accompanied by physical violence in order to be a
real insult - and, of course, "paki" and "pikey" are never accompanied by violence. But "nigger" (as I understand it) comes from the Spanish
negro - so surely, by Melissa Kite's logic, that should also simply a cheeky short-hand way of saying "afro-Caribbean person".
Quote:
But, ‘n’ word aside, we cannot go on like this, slimming down the once lively and vibrant English language until we’re left with nothing but meaningless platitudes sanctioned by the equalities lobby.
So apparently our variety of racial slurs are what makes our language lively and vibrant.
Where the fuck did they find this moron? I'd have thought it was just another attempt at trolling by the Mail, but it's been up all day and has only acquired one comment.
