The Catholic church is possibly the only homophobic organisation I know of where power is awarded to the most festively dressed members.

I think it's a bit stupid to draw conclusions on whether or not people want the option (right) of marriage based on whether or not they personally are going to get married. I know plenty of straight couples who, for one reason or another, are not and do not wish to be married but I doubt that they would be indifferent to legislation that changes whether or not they can.

A debate and a vote on allowing for same sex marriage would take a day at the most, surely it wouldn't be too difficult to squeeze this into the parliamentary timetable and still allow plenty of time for plenty of debating time for economic issues. If the governments handling of the economy really does require more parliamentary scrutiny perhaps MPs could give up a couple of weeks of their Summer holidays or they could even work a 5 day week once in a while.

This is the most frustrating thing about the gay marriage debate right now.
The fact that at this point in time there are numerous other things going on that anti-gay marriage people might not normaly think about, but now will leap on claiming how important they think they are to distract from the issue and delay (or they hope prevent) getting to a level of serious discussion in parliament.

Looks like the original headline might have been been edited.

Thank you for the article - however, we did not have a wedding as weddings for same sex couples are not legally recognised. We had the first civil partnership to be registered on religious premises. As this is a controversial issue, it is important to be accurate.

The more minorities push themselves on the majority the more they alienate the same majority, this just pushes the CofE closer to oblivion, one wonders if that's what some want, but remember if Christianity falls in the UK, the religions that will replace it are a lot less tolerant!

I don't think Andy means religions plural there.

Children of same-sex couples 'at higher risk of depression and social issues as adults' - but experts say new study is flawed

I know, I know... it's shit to call a spade a spade............. ;)

However it is also still true, sadly, that black children fare worse than their white counterparts.

So the problem lies where exactly?

This phrase confused me a bit...
Quote:
Dr Regnerus argued that the study is the largest random sample of young adults with at least one same-sex parent, to date.

What does that even mean?!

Has anyone done a study on the effect of mail reading parents on kids?

Nothing to do with the bullying and namecalling they're likely to get from the children of bigoted parents then? Or have they decided it's just because gay relationships are wrong?

Even if the study is flawed (as I'm sure it is), it doesn't change the fact that if society as a whole were more tolerant of gay couples and parents, a lot of the problems they and their children have could be eased or solved altogether. Writing up about "studies" like that in this fashion does nothing to address that, only give anti-gay adoption people more evidence (in their moinds) that their oppinions are justified.

The American Psychological Association has long reckoned that same sex parenting is OK:

No Andrew opposing Gay marriage doesn't make you a bigot but being associate editor of the Daily Mail probably does make you prone to write articles that appeal to bigots.

I'm guessing he doesn't read his online comment either:

well i dunno mr pierce, black people can be racists, women can be misogynists, and yes, gay people can be bigots, so it's definitely possible. so considering all other mitigating factors (who you work for, the use of the position to promote your personal opinion as fact, your personal opinion being that other should be denied something because you don't want it, etc..) how about we just settle on "cunt"?

Exactly.
And how representative of the gay community is he?
