Some of the comments are appaling and an embarrassment to British people. This is exactly the kind of crap people like Henning Wehn lap up.

As if I could reasonably expect any different. Plus as far as I'm aware, Germans in Germany aren't even alowed to be in posession of anything bearing the SS insignia or the Swastica in this historical context, which they should surely know. Bearing that in mind -and what that represents in terms of Germany's feelings about that part of their history- just how did they think the Germans would react?

Yes - I think they probably are. It's the sort of thing Narglefargle would find witty.

What exactly did they think they were re-enacting? Or was funny?

This miserable-looking Fuhrer statue from the war had a huge red cushion on his behind, rather than the brown tufted version

Ooops, think you may have made a boo boo here DM. You know how your readers don't like people to poke fun at their favourite German wartime leader. And why no photo of him, so we can compare the likeness?

The bard of Vero Beach will be chewing his hearthrug.
They've missed an opportunity for a topical Corporal Jones reference.

We could do with a "Things that schoolchildren don't know" page.

Not if the DM has anything to do with it.

One of the comments under the article seems to question some of the information contained in the article.

When stationed in Berlin in the late forties we Sappers went to the Olympic pool every morning. It didn't like look that one. I don't know where the Olympic Village was but the Olympic Stadium was in the British Sector. We held the King's Birthday Parade on the approach.

Old news. Goebbels rather infamously (and tabloid journalists, take note, this is what 'chillingly' means) said "We will decide who the Jews are."

While he was bonking a Jewish movie actress while away from his evil bitchqueen wife. Which may have affected his opinion.
