Master class on how to get out of an embarrassing tumbleweed-rolling-past response to a joke by that big bloke.

Same here, to relate back to oboogie's comment, most of the time I do enjoy the show, so I'm not exactly watching it for one person despite hating it.

Except for Chris Addison. I think I can remember some of his early (as in mid-90's) stand up and I'm sure he never used to be this annoying. The more episodes of The Thick Of It he appears in the more his twat meter fills up. He is just too pleased with himself because of that show.

I've never seen The Thick Of It but I've see him live (on TV and in the flesh) and on panel shows and I think he's funny. He's been on HIGNFY a few times. Once memorably laying into journalists in general and Julia Hartley-Brewer (who was on the show) in particular for being too thick to understand that Gordon Brown couldn't just stand down in May '10 and leave us without a PM while Clegg made his mind up. He's a lefty so often clashes with and defeats Hislop which I'd have thought would appeal to you.

I still don't understand why, if he enrages you that much, you don't just switch over/off when you see that he's on.

I avoid him in most things, but as he's a core panellist of Mock the Week it's unpossible to watch it without him now.

At least he's not as bad as The Manchild, Russell Howard. Ugh.

How dare you say that about the funniest Russell on BBC3.
He's nice to old ladies and spanish waiters too...

He seriously pissed off the EDL as well, they issued death threats and (IIRC) a few got sent down for it.
That makes him a good bloke in my book.

That's certainly points in his favour, but largely I cannot stand him.

His jokes quickly became one-trick jokes - i.e. Situation X is like Unbelievable Situation Y With Some Possible Room For Offensive Comments, and after Frankie Boyle left Mock the Week Russell shifted his act to compensate but he just came out of it looking shite.

I'll not deny his solo show was somewhat funny for the first season or so, but I got really, really bored of his style. So I don't watch it.

I personally love Russell Howard's comedic style, each to their own I guess.

Mock the Week was better before they got rid of Frankie Boyle, although it's still generally good.

The quality varies wildly based on the guests. MtW tends to attract unfunny types, particularly a lot of young comedians who haven't quite found their footing, and it chooses them badly too.

Milton Jones and Stewart Francis, for example - they can be absolutely hilarious, but their style generally doesn't fit Mock the Week. If you watch episodes with Milton on, once he's told a joke it often pans to the panel laughing in this really odd, slightly puzzled way as if they're questioning why he's on it.

Ed Byrne can be very good on it, though.
