The Mail on Sunday journalist who penned the less-than-truthful story about Leveson threatening to quit over Gove has been called before the enquiry to explain himself.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/ju ... it-inquiry

I suspect the line of questioning will be if he has purposely begun a megaphone campaign to destabilise the enquiry by telling porkies and why. And, of course, he may be questioned about the Executive Editor's rôle in the whole tawdry affair...

Excellent.

I'm going to get one of those Leveson T-shirts.

interesting, given that brian indicated reportage re enquiry would be taken on board. but thatwas weeks ago. AN must have been looking the other way. AN is totally innocent. as is the brit press in general. don't y'see y'all? leveson isa a time-wasting, money-wasting excercise in attacking free expression. jesus, what's wrong with you people?

Anyone else think that the current campaign by 'The Times' to expose celebrity tax dodgers is an attempt by News International to try and get over the message that the print media do a great job at uncovering this kind of thing and any new press regulations would stifle this kind of investigative journalism?

Yes, certainly.

Problem is, as people have pointed out, for every Jimmy Carr there's a Gary Barlow, or even worse a Lord Ashcroft. I think it'll be quietly buried.

Desmond titles face PA and adverts ban if PCC reform plans get green light

Chair of PCC funding body, Lord Black, draws up unlikely list of 'incentives' to try and avoid statutory regulation

Quote:
Lord Black, the Telegraph Media Group executive director who chairs the influential Press Standards Board of Finance (Pressbof), has written to the Leveson inquiry to make the unlikely suggestion that "major advertisers" should require that publications and blogs sign up to a revamped PCC, or else withdraw their spending. Desmond's publications are not part of the Press Complaints Commission...

But for all the tough talk, there were immediate signs that Black's threats could prove to be unworkable – and antagonise other publishers who remain sceptical about a reform process led by somebody at the heart of the existing system of self-regulation, which has been discredited by the phone-hacking scandal.

If the Times campaign revealed how much Corporation Tax News International avoid paying every year I might be more convinced. As it is the whole thing stinks.

I suspect its more a case of 'We're only shaming celebs at the moment. Be nice to us or we'll start on Tory party donors...'

When asked to comment on Gary Barlow using similar take avoidance schemes to Jimmy Carr the Prime Minister said he wasn't prepared to comment on the tax affairs of individuals!

Was it morrally wrong for the Tories to accept a 250k loan at a nominal rate from a company registered in the British Virgin Isles?

Does that count as one for the U-turn list?
