Shyamz had the same problem a while ago.

I cannot remember her solution.

Blair in 2005:

Economy was in good shape.
7/7 hadn't happened yet.
The opposition was shambolic and charisma-free.
Blair had charisma in spades.
The media wasn't quite so full of right wing lunatics.

If it wasn't for a few little problems, like Afghanistan, Iraq, faith schools, being a religious maniac and PFI, I'm sure he could. He's a clever and talented politician, and streets beyond anyone in any of the parties today. He's just managed to taint himself beyond redemption.

For all he says that he wants to play a big role in domestic politics again, it's hard to see how, practically, he could. Unless he goes to the Lords at some future point in order to come back into a future Labour cabinet, following the example of Mandelson.

He wouldn't get far without the (holy?) trinity of Rusbridger, Powell and Campbell back in play. He says he's learned things, but so have we.

Of course, he does already have Murdoch on-side, and is no doubt feeling incredibly bolstered by Cameron's spectacular crash and burn, alienating virtually everyone but his own elite class, just two years into a shared government where the dominating party only got 36% of the vote.

The remarks on CiF from people in their late 20s and early 30s claiming they never had it so good under Blair, and now they want those times back, must make galling reading for long term Tory planners like Policy Exchange.

Jokes aside.... flinging shit at an ex pm is one thing.

Doesn't this need reporting?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2175197/Former-PMs-claiming-100-000-year-EACH-maintain-luxury-lifestyles.html

How Blair and Brown are each claiming more than £100,000 a year from the public purse to maintain luxury lifestyles
Payment is made to all former prime ministers
John Major and Margaret Thatcher also claim the taxpayer-funded allowance

This surely has to make some of their heads explode. They want to get angry at the horrible lefties Blair and Brown........but hang about....the same applies to Thatcher? What to do! Although the comments section seems to focus very much on the first 2 and pretend Thatcher wasn't mentioned.

I'd imagine a fair amount of that has to do with security arrangements. It's not just former PMs - ex-NI Secretaries and others also qualify.

Doesn't Thatcher claim the highest amount?
