Really? When?

Besides, he's been asked a question relating to fans in his own country - simply trying to counter with the "yeah but you guys..." defence is simply avoiding the question.

I had him down as a wrong'un while he was at the RCP / The Next Step.
I can't see a big change - aside from the size of the publisher's coffers.

He's right though - Gills v Hereford last year was like the Nuremberg Rally.

I'd be very surprised if it was that well attended.
Or the subject of a Reiffenstal film that was later used as a basis for "The empire strikes back".

George Lucas may have copied shots from Riefenstahl's films, but that does not him a Nazi make.

In terms of cinematography, she was a pioneer. Just a shame about the politics.

I just like to drop that one in as a wind up now and again.
Star wars is actually littered with "homages", most from less controversial directors.

Looks like O'Neill's made a twat of himself again.

Quote:
We are now used to the Telegraph’s Brendan O’Neill wheeling out his increasingly tired rhetoric about the “hand-wringing” middle classes. Now his lazy method of attack has left him looking rather silly. On Tuesday he took the opportunity to smear Calum’s List, a website dedicated to compiling information about those deaths, particularly suicides, where welfare reform has been “alleged to have had some culpability”.

O’Neill used Calum’s List to exemplify what he called the “highly patronising… victorian-style pity-politics” of the campaign against welfare reform. Such campaigners, he said, lack “any constituency of grassroots support, any backing from ordinary people, and so must try to raise an army of dead people instead”. He contrasted such “pity politics” with what he saw as the much better “politics of solidarity”. Calum’s List he said were “exploiting” suicide victims.

The response from Calum’s List illustrated, with absolute clarity, the sheer baselessness of these assertions:

Quote:
Calum’s List is written by the disabled, and by people who are bereft… a group of disabled people, widows, widowers, bereaved parents and orphans trying to find a voice

O’Neill’s line of attack, in other words, is simply irreconcilable with the reality of who Calum’s List are. They are not pity-mongers coming in from on high to pick over the carcases of dead benefits claimants. They are the disabled, who rely upon benefits, and the loved ones of those who have died. They are people binding together for collective self-defence – a phenomenon typically described, by everybody except perhaps Brendan O’Neill, as “solidarity”.

Anti-welfare reform campaigners are the real elitists, anti-racists are the real racists, Shelter hates the homeless, the RAC hates cars, Dick Darstardly wasn't even trying to catch that pigeon.

Toby Young said "we're the real punks!" or something similar.

There seem to be a lot of people who believe that campaigners for issues around disability and mental health cannot possibly understand those issues, and certainly couldn't actually be mentally ill or disabled (since, obviously, the disabled can't actually use the internet or express opinions themselves)

You do realise that Bob Diamond was working on behalf of the poor and that those of us calling for a judicial enquiry hate the working class, don't you?

I got this far before I realised I was wasting my time:

Quote:
As part of the government’s workfare scheme, Cait Reilly, a jobless graduate, found herself rubbing shoulders with plebs and riff-raff as a shelf-stacker in a branch of Poundland. And she wasn’t happy about it.

Which is still further than I get through most Brendan O'Neill articles. Presumptuous bollocks. It's always amusing, though, to see another self-styled 'libertarian' offering wholehearted support to state-sponsored coercion.
