And then claiming there was 'none of that' when you were young.

The DM seem to have done an about-face turn on Autism, for now.

What's more, there are no horrendous comments either against cats or the little boy. Admittedly, it is moderated but they usually let a few nasties through for the hell of it. Rejoice for we are witnessing a rare thing - a lovely article with no agenda and no nastiness.

Ah, but that has to be balanced by their other article about MMR giving an Italian boy autism.

Cute little kids are allowed to have autism, it's the wrong 'uns who stare at you on the bus who should have been clipped round the ear more when they were cute little kids with... I mean... hmm.

A month late - yes yes yes. Ditto today's piece on aborting foetuses with Down's (see Mail vs IVF thread). Oh, the Mail and its cheaply-sentimental readers love little girls in frilly frocks with slanty eyes and big smiles and innocent sweetness. They don't mind little slanty-eyed boys that much either, because they're so LOVING and SWEET, as long as someone else has drawn the short straw of being their parents. But adults? Who need benefits and care and disabled parking spaces and who have the nerve to live a normal lifespan so they take up resources needed for Mail readers and their relatives? No no no. Can't have that. Kill them all when puberty sets in and then you'll feel so good about yourself for being nice about Disabled Children but at the same time won't have to pay or be inconvenienced by disabled adults. result.

The Mail only show pictures of Downs children who are the 'normal' looking end of the Downs spectrum and function in a way that's socially acceptable. There is of course the opposite end...

I think The Mail would have done very well under a Nazi regime.

A lack of nuance and the use of the subjunctive?

Children can GROW OUT of autism: Controversial research suggests not all youngsters have the same fate

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... z2I5L5ji00

Here we go again... no doubt this will be eagerly seized upon by the "just naughty kids who never saw a slipper" mob. Presenting some anecdata of my own I suspect the underlying condition is still there but in certain cases at the milder end of the spectrum it is perfectly posible to develop coping mechanisms that enable a relatively normal life until a curve ball comes along.

And here is Katrina with a cure that she "read somewhere". Well done you.

Quote:
I read somewhere that if a child who has autism, looks in the mirror three times a day, will eventually recognize who they are. The part of the brain that determines self awareness doesn't recognize who is looking in the mirror. For those who have children who have autism, it might be worthwhile to try it. They only need to look in the mirror about thirty seconds.

That's probably the worst aspect of the double edged sword that is the internet - parents self-diagnosing their own and and other people's children with it and then looking for miracle cures, overnight becoming experts in everything and knowing better than any doctor under the sun.

Where's there a bloke with a stick and a painkiller habit when you need him?
