New G4S embarrassment as two guards protecting Olympic venue are arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants

Officers swooped on the venue after their alleged bogus status is said to have been revealed in an accreditation check by G4S, which has been criticised after failing to provide enough staff for the Games.

The staff work for Arete Securex, which was sub-contracted by G4S to provide security for the stadium during the Olympics.
Mohammed Umar, a supervisor with Arete Securex, admitted there had been ‘some problems’ with paying staff.
He said: 'We had some invoicing delays with G4S but the money is coming on Monday morning.'
A spokesman for G4S said: 'There have been some issues around the Arete workforce being paid on time by their management.

I reckon this will make it much harder to give them contracts.

Outsourcing was never as popular as its mates in the press claimed- to his credit, Douglas Carswell when he was bigging up referenda on everything, admitted privatisers wouldn't do very well in them.

Cameron and all will press on. But we can hope Ed Milliband's nudged away from it.

Despite having a £284m tax payer funded contract which they failed to deliver upon they are going to donate £2.5m to the armed forces for picking up their mess. Not that this exercise was ever about security over corporate profits, but do they need to be so naked about it? If they can freely give out millions, why couldn't they provide the training and numbers in the first place. It's a terrible PR stunt for a thoroughly disgraced company. It works out at £137 per soldier. Utter disgrace.

G4S proves we can't always rely on private sector, admits minister

G4S's failure to provide enough Olympic security guards has taught ministers that private firms are unsuited to providing many public services, the Defence Secretary has admitted.

In an interview with The Independent, Philip Hammond said the G4S saga had caused him to rethink his scepticism towards the public sector – and made him appreciate there were some things that only state organisations like the Army could be relied upon to do.

Mr Hammond's frank admission of the limits of the private sector, from a minister currently overseeing the largest overhaul of Britain's armed forces in a generation, will be welcomed by senior military commanders. Some have privately expressed concerns Mr Hammond is intent on pushing through a programme of creeping privatisation as cuts force troops to rely increasingly on commercial contractors.
