Boris Johnson invites Rupert Murdoch as personal guest to Olympic event

Oh Boris, inviting the head of an organisation under investigation for widespread corruption, bribery and various other charges. What are you like!

Could also have gone in "we're all in this together" thread. This does seem very ill-judged, given that Murdoch should be PR suicide at the moment. However, I wonder if Boris is so far gone into "lol, legend" status that he's nigh on untouchable. When you're elected partially on the "lol, what a lad" merit, you have carte blanche to get away with stunts like this .

Boris Johnson was left hanging today when he got stuck halfway down a zip wire at an event in Victoria Park.

The Mayor of London had to be pulled the rest of the way by teams on the ground at around 13:30 this afternoon.

Boris Johnson was heard shouting "Get me a rope, get me a ladder" after he was the first person to use the zip wire. He continued "I think the brakes got stuck".

Boris was left dangling for a couple of minutes

Crowds were left laughing when Boris Johnson was left hanging

As someone on Twitter noted, Vladimir Putin he ain't.

Are you suggesting that our dear, sainted Boris might stage these things as a distraction? What a nasty, cynical person you are!

It's not as though any of the reptiles would help him, is it?

Boris Johnson made no attempt to stifle his yawn during the men's beach volleyball match, left, but perked up and managed a smile when the women came on to play

Looking at the expressions of the people in the background, BoJo's position within the picture and the movement of his hand I'd say the second photo was taken immediately after the first.

The camera may never lie but the caption writer tells a porkie or two.

Another view on the "could Boris take the leadership role?" discussion:

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/bened ... ory-party/

To be honest he appears to be one of the only remotely electable ones anyway. The cabinet is all culpable in the current mess, and doesn't have a charismatic leader amongst them. Boris could be a serious threat to Labour, unless he can be held under a microscope and shown to be terrible at policy and debate (and he would have to be terrible, because he carries enough credability with the public to get by with just being a bit rubbish).

He doesn't like long interviews. He dodged one the sunday before the election.

<------I hope you're not including this person - he knows Latin 'n shit.

I think the Boris as PM jizzfest won't come to much anyway. He might win elections if they're one-on-one and and essentially a popularity contest, but the general election is a different kettle of fish and I think (hope) the Tories won't come anywhere near a majority as they've turned out to be the exact shits people claimed they were. Also, if Boris was Tory leader, he would be under national scrutiny, and I can't imagine his bumbling toff persona would be tolerated unless we do infact live in a country of "Clarkson for PM" types.

A Bojo on a wire. Bumbling prick!

Dave called it a triumph. Not too sure what he means by that!

Rumour circulating that he got stuck because he lied about his weight.
No idea if it's true, of course...
