Yup - new series of Charlie Brooker's Screen Burn began last night on BBC4 with a totally brilliant rant about the hypocrisy of newspapers like the Mail & Express whipping up a froth of outrage about the "deception" of the BBC.

Sample brazenly false tabloid headline by way of illustration : "TITTED SHARK MAULS TOT, 6."

Catch it again on BBC4 - I'm sure it'll be re-run soon. Or watch the next ep.

I've been looking forward to this for ages. Well, since Saturday when I saw it in the Guide.

It was fantastic, probably one of the funniest episodes of the programme that I've seen.

I saw it too, it was good. You can probably watch it on the new iPlayer if you're desperate.

Charlie Brooker is an absolute genius, period.

I love the fact he also highlighted one of the other tricks that newspapers like to pull, namely the practice of taking dozens of photos of a celebrity (usually female) when they step out of a nightclub or bar, but proceeding to only publish the ones where they are snapped mid-blink, so as to reinforce the impression that said celeb was drunk/stoned out of their minds.

Surely no-one could be that desperate. Also, WHY DID I NOT KNOW IT WAS ON? I must watch the repeats now..

I missed it as well. Can't believe The Guide didn't preview it. There's a repeat late night on Friday if I remember to record it...

I liked the "Exprez" headline: "DIANA FOUND IN WAX MOUSE".

This guy on YouTube usually uploads them in a day or two too. I caught it on TV; genius stuff as ever from the Brookmeister.

Finally. A proper tv channel (well...)

Not sure if it's a repeat of something old though.

Quote:
COMEDY: Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe
On: BBC 2 Midlands (2)
Date: Monday 19th January 2009
Time: 22:00 to 22:30 (30 minutes long)

Charlie Brooker takes an irreverent look at all aspects of life on the small screen, including capsule reviews of the week's highs and lows. In an advertising special, there are reports from a mysterious insider dishing the dirt on all that is bad in the industry, as well a potted history of advertising. Brooker reveals the changing psychology used to keep people buying and how the portrayal of men and women in advertising have changed, plus poet Tim Key gives us an advert-related verse.
