Have some of these armchair experts taken some of today's 'easy' A-levels? I'd guess that most of them haven't. And given journalistic accuracy is dubious to say the least, I think most of the Daily Mail readers are bang out of order in their criticisms of the young men and women who got their A-levels.

Aww I felt sorry for the blonde. But then B is nothing to be ashamed of, just hope it's enough to get her through.

Considering the dubious grammar that frequents the front page, I think that question is worth extending to the "journalists" too.

That was great.

"Oh, I've got a B in English...not an A"
"What does that mean?"
"I don't know..."

I don't get why girls always scream when they get their results. I just open them and generally go "oh" even if I passed everything.

I'm exactly the same. "Oh" included.

I'm more of satisfied 'huh' guy myself, even if I've failed.

I'm an "oh" person as well. I was always mildly pissed off with myself when I got Standard/Higher results, for a bit, even though I knew I couldn't have done much better. Even though I didn't need any Advanced Higher results, I was angry with myself for getting 2 As and 2 Bs. I have no idea why, it was completely stupid.

Please enlighten me, who was this Gradgrind?

He was the authoritarian teacher in Hard Times by Dickens.
By coincedence this article appeared in THe Guardian a few days later.

its that time of year when christmas is banned and if you wanted a good laugh att nutty comments the re all here under one roof...ho ho ho

Christmas should be 'downgraded' to help race relations says Labour think tank

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... rtComments

If you take away Christmas they'll be riots the length and breadth of this country. We all knew that Labour was pretty inept in its creative ideas but this just takes the biscuit.

- James Mills, Nottingham

I would dread to think how many times my grandfather has turned in his war grave due to this complete destruction of a culture by Nu-labour he died to protect.

- Steve, Colchester, Essex

two gems amoung many...

Yes, if Christmas is to be 'downgraded', then so should Nu Labour as a political party. Downgraded to 'Irrelevant and Immatarial' because its made up of of failed Marrxist-Leninists, Joe Stanlin wannabees and plain daftness and incompetence. I'll buy that for a Dollar!

- G Clarke, Chelmsford UK

own up someone please!

Stalin wannabes? I thought Gordon Brown was the very incarnation of Stalin himself?

Talk about misconstruing history. They accuse Labour and the LEFTEVILEFT of being hyperbolic and self hating, and they compare Brown to perhaps the biggest murderer in history.

Interesting to note that the report doesn't seem to include the word 'downgrading'. Even if it did, it's a leap from downgrading something to taking it away, as that commenter suggests.

(This story should go in the Winterval Watch thread, I reckon)
