There will be a similar reaction in many towns and villages. The Google idea is very intrusive. As a thief, one could just sit at home and study the houses for ways in without having to trudge the streets doing the old-fashioned casing of the joints. Perhaps the owner of Google is a modern day Fagin providing a sit-at-home casing service for his bands of thieves!Click to rate Rating 34- DG, Haywards Heath, 2/4/2009 14:18

I do hope Google's lawyers aren't reading the Mail today.

These people do realise that streetview only takes a photo of the front of your house. And maybe some of the side if you're semi/detached.

These people seem to think you get a ultra high quality virtual tour of your front and back gardens.

And if they aren't, I do so hope someone points that out to them

I love it. Just think, you're a criminal mastermind controlling bands of thieves who need to case houses before burgling them. Do you:
(a) tell your Artful Dodgers to go and have a look at the houses in question; or
(b) spend billions setting up a multinational website, sending expensive cars round to take 360 degree photos of every street in the major towns, and put in place a very expensive and complicated website allowing the entire world to access those photos for free - just so that your minions can case the joints as they were at the time the photos were taken and cross their fingers that nothing has changed subsequently.

If you're DG of Haywards Heath, the answer is obviously (b).

If you have Google Maps on your mobile phone you can press 0 and it takes an educated guess at where you are from the phone masts.

Surely theres a way to make that into a story....

I was behind a Google car the other day as it took photos of the A56 towards Burnley, presumably to help their band of thieves rob all the NOTHING there.

You can do that on a Blackberry too (if it has Blackberry Maps) - it's bloody shocking :) but not as shocking as how long it takes to find a satellite and if you're indoors, forget it!

aside from the obvious lulz of the story, at least half of the text of that thing is just cut and pasted directly from the previous artical.
bloody hell, can they not just make it a shorter piece, i didn't need the exact same "idiots guide to what streetview is" two days in a row (never mind that some of that is mentioned in it is apocryphal bullshit anyway).

edit: ok it doesn't look like its actually a new artical at all, they've just changed the title and switched the pics around a bit, the comments from the old one are still on there. (which is odd as ones that were supporting the anti-google ring now look like they're supporting the mass photo taking)

I want to go and take photos of that village and send them to Google. You just know that most of those muppets read the Mail.

they've now had a whole item dedicated to them on bbc news, who did a series of tracking shots along the street (in higher res than the google camera ever would have) and made a point of mentioning how many other photographers and camera crews there were there now.

and still the two residents who have spearheaded this don't seem to be able to work out that this may possibly have blown up in the faces.

this is what irony looks like:
