Okay then. So I know what this bloke looks like, what his house looks like and that there's a road "25 to 30 feet" from his lounge. I'll get myself a van, wait until he goes out and then it's party time.

You can do that on a Blackberry too (if it has Blackberry Maps) - it's bloody shocking :) but not as shocking as how long it takes to find a satellite and if you're indoors, forget it!

Google maps can work from GPS, or the phone masts. So no one is safe!!

Or something.

Its quite clever really, the phone masts alone is accurate enough for casual use.

From a caption on one of the photos:

Google snoops: The company says its Street View images help housebuyers but the village disagreed

I definitely side with Google on this argument. I now know never to buy a house in Broughton because all my neighbours would be twunts.

Paul Jacobs is utterly astonished to hear that he is being hailed as some sort of international freedom fighter. A respectable, bespectacled 43-year-old real estate executive, he's not exactly Che Guevara material.

Who on earth is hailing him as an "international freedom fighter". If you ask me he's little more than an small-minded, Middle Englander Luddite who is in danger of being suffocated by his tinfoil hat.

I got a comment through, saying as much:

"International freedom fighter"? More like sad, out-of-touch luddite worried for nothing.

I still cannot work out why it is bad for Google to take photographs of your street, but to admit, in national news that will no doubt be seen by many more people than those that will be using Street View, that you live in an "affluent area" is okay.

It's one in the red, which pleases me.

So there you go. Google is almost completely bad and it WILL rise burglaries by a billion % overnight, but luckily the Mail is sticking up for YOUR privacy...... by printing the embarassing photos it's complaining about over and over again.

Yes, this little revolt, which happened to occur in Britain, has made Google look so very foolish.

Um.

Moving on.

This week's Street View story:

Love the 'actually it was all fine' ending to that article:

Quote:
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire police said: 'The vehicle had driven down a bus only lane and the officer just pulled him over to see what he was doing.

'He explained that we was from Google and had permission to be in the area and he was sent on his way.'

Google Street View does not invade personal privacy, rules UK watchdog

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ ... chdog.html

the URL contradicts the story.

I started a thread for this subject yesterday having entirely missed this one, so apologies for the annoyance.

Interesting readers' comments, the majority of whom back the watchdog's ruling. These people are getting the green votes and any naysayer gets redded.

This flies in the face of the usual Mail commenter. Has there been a concerted effort from Google to get a good result? It wouldn't take much effort.

I'll get me tin foil coat.

Well we know the BNP mobilises its membership to vote certain comments down/up, so I wouldn't put it past Google. They have a fiercely loyal workforce.

BTW I am pleased to see you've given Littledick some flu protection in your avatar there. Three guesses as to what he's gonna write about tomorrow.
