Incidentally, why is there not a single FB group saying Clarkson should NOT be Prime Minister?

Because anyone with more than, say, ten brain cells knows that there isn't a chance in hell of Clarkson ever getting anywhere near being anything other than a rabble-rousing oaf. It would be like starting a Facebook group demanding that John Prescott should never be allowed to be Miss Hull.

statutory rape, meaning she consented but was underage so that consent wasn't freely given since she was, in a legal sense, incapable or knowing what she consented to.

According to her account (accepted by Polanski in his financial settlement to her in an attempt to buy her off) he also gave her drugs and alcohol, and forced her against her will to have anal sex. I think that's just plain rape.

Interesting. A quick look at the followers shows that most are men and - guess what? Some are forrins! Or at least ex-pats. Who'd a thunk?

I've been there. There is only 2 families there.

one of my lecturers at uni lived there for a bit and reckoned he was the only person there who'd ever been anywhere else...

Not actually a pointless group but can't be arsed to start a new thread just for one.

This is excellent - a list of things the Mail claims cause cancer.

Well not all. At least something like the RATM Number One actually achieved something, and for a worthy cause too. That's how Facebook groups should be done - have causes that actually take action elsewhere, on different websites or actually provide an ounce of inspiration. The sad bit is 99.9999% of Facebook groups are indeed pointless, and it's slowly becoming a populist slide towards the drek that is now Myspace.

I do. It's hardly going to change anything, is it? just as none of the "let's eliminate racism/sexism/daily mail readers/prunes*/poverty/anything unfair at all " have achieved anything whatsoever.

*if i were going to do one,it would be this

But if you work on the principle of it doesn't change anything, why would anyone do anything? Point doesn't necessarily have to be about actually changing actions so much as changing opinions, or even getting your own opinion out there.

opinions shape actions

facebook will never change the world. it's for keeping in touch with someone called keith who you used to work with and thought was a wanker but you need all the 'friends' you can get to make yourself look popular
