Well, they probably have a slightly better idea what they're doing than you do.

That evil, evil world-ending machine!

It's going to tear a hole in the fabric of spacetime, even though its most powerful collisions are currently 3.5 TeV, quite a way off matching the collisions of cosmic rays in the upper atmosphere that occur millions of times a second.

How many people with scientific training concocted this scare story?

I read on wikipedia it had three principal architects, none of whom work in high energy physics.

As for A.N. Wilson, he is a prize twit, with his strange, anachronistic turn of phrase.

'all this hoo-ha'.

haha.

Nothing terribly wrong about this story, except:

Quote:
Full power: An extreme ultraviolet image of the Sun shows different gas temperatures - reds are about 59,727C, blues and greens are about 999,727C

Note that "about 59,727C" is "about 60,000K" and "about 999,727C" is "about 1,000,000K".

Well, can't fault their maths, seems they can subtract 273 flawlessly!

This thread should be renamed The Mail Readers vs Science.

 Because there's about as much atmosphere out there as there are brain cells in your head? Seriously, this is pretty basic physics.

Ever heard of filters? (as mentioned in the article) I bet he doesn't believe humans have been to the moon either because he wasn't there himself.

Is it just me who pictures "jooooj" saying that while clasping the sides of a chair, staring straight ahead and rocking back and forth in their seat?

Urgh, :?
are mail readers allowed to masturbate except over Hermione Granger and the 3 girls who get 5 A* grades at a levels every year?

I suspect the masturbatory fantasies of Mailies are wide, and more unsettling than we can ever imagine.

The weekly Littlejohn columns are regularly stuck to the previous page around the area of Littlejohn's face (allegedly).

I know, Poe's Law and all that, ... but I'm struggling to believe that this is meant seriously:

As many of you know, I do not believe in the theory of satellite orbits, and WHAT IS MORE, have people forgotten the most BASIC lesson you learn as a child that you should NEVER look at the sun through binoculors since they will fry your eyes out!!! Same goes for a telescope, IF THERE WAS POWERFUL TELESCOPE UP THERE IN SPACE POINTING AT THE SUN THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM WOULD BE FRIED IN AN INSTANT!!!!!

I always imagined JOHN SMITH of BIRMINGHAM keeping a copy of 'Amistad' in amongst his porn collection
