I've wondered that a lot.
You occasionally get these apparently decent MPs who sideline themselves on points of principle.

I wonder how they got through the Hang Nelson Mandela, The cow-towing to foreign dictators, the Islamophobia, the 9050's style racism.
They've worked their way up through local branches, they must see it in spades.

How does their Damascene conversion happen.
It is the Mitchell and Webb "Are we the baddies?", or Father Dougal's "They women were in the buff!".

I've known and worked with some decent local level Tories. Self reliance, keep taxes low, don't waste public funds. Nothing particularly bad there. Not on the surface.

I've met others who are massive racists who realise it's best to not shout too loudly but just quietly block black people's planning permission or golf club membership applications.

Johnny Mercer is another good example, having stopped just short of calling his fellow Tory colleagues a bunch of cunts in a recent interview with The House magazine.

However, if his claims of never having voted in an election before he ran for office are true, he could at least play the ignorance card I suppose.
