A lot of people feel a bit more Christian at Christmas, at least a bit warm and fuzzy and inclined to caring - that's caring as in watching a news report and going "ooh, what a shame", rather than giving absolutely no shits at all.

Christians do get persecuted. Worst offender is probably China, but let's just leave that. The reaction he's hoping to get is not picketing the Chinese embassy, but slumping a little further into the sofa and moaning that you can't sing baa baa black sheep any more.

For a lot of people, Christianity is not so much about God, or a moral code, but shorthand for mainstream white anglospheric life.

I knew a bloke once who felt that Christianity was, at root, an early attempt at socialism. You know, caring for your fellow man, booting the money changers out of the temple and and so on

There's something in that. Socialist & Christian values are fairly congruent. Tony Benn used to subscribe to that view.

And think "I've done my 2nd trip to church this year (1st is at Easter), and I am a sanctimonious white man because I feel so virtuous........but I can see why people don't go, all that praying and preaching, not for me thank you!"

In a related gaffe reported by local media, the UK’s Slovenian embassy tweeted that Hunt was in the country to meet Karl Erjavec, when in fact he left his role as foreign secretary last year.

Cyber-attacks could turn elections into "tainted exercises" that undermine Western democracies, the foreign secretary has said.

In a speech in Glasgow, Jeremy Hunt said authoritarian regimes view democratic elections as "key vulnerabilities" to be targeted.

But he stressed there was no evidence of successful interference in UK polls

Preferring Katie Hopkins to an elected official.

The rhyming slang is well deserved.
And remember folks - there are no "better" candidates for Tory leader, they're all "Hang Mandela" extremists.
