Things the Tories thought were profligate money-burning in the 80s:
- Police monitoring
- Nuclear-free zones
- Foreign travel
- Gay seminars
- Over-manning

Yeah, imagine having the temerity to think a 1980s British police force needed monitoring. Why, even the suggestion wants a good kicking in the cells and a fit-up for an old robbery.

Those 80s Tories were a foul and bigoted lot where the mindset of Tebbitt held sway. Rightly, they were finally turfed out in 1997 and stayed out.

Then they realised that prejudice could be monetised.

That sounds dreadfully simplistic but it is painfully true. Bingo. Hello now.

Believe it or not, that was rather tame for them in the 80's. Barely a day went by without them and their press squealing about black, disabled lesbians in Lambeth.

You think I am hamming it up for effect...
And I know people who still us those exact same words in 2018.

No idea. Camden has always been a well-run Labour Council which has some of the best inner-city state schools in the country.

I do remember the last Tory PPB before the 1997 election (not least because I was voting for the first time). It was set in a future Labour Mad Max wasteland in which heroin-addicted grey-faced teenagers bemoaned their parents Labour vote in 1997. It was filmed in Camden's Brunswick Centre, a grade II listed modernist structure round the corner from where I lived at the time. Everyone went out and voted for Tone the next day and it was glorious.

That's an amazing house. What tranquil location it would make to treat recovering gambling addicts.
