She was once a squaddie. Amazingly enough, in the Intelligence Corps.
I've just set a reminder for tomorrow morning to check that claim. Though there are quite a few who sign up, do three years, and then piss off to do something they're more suited to. It might be that she hasn't yet found that job.

I'm not quite sure why she thinks the EU rules we were bound by were unduly limiting or PC.
In recent years we've seen, in no particular order, the EU itself or individual member states:

- Shoot at refugee boats
- Hire the Janjaweed militia to hunt down potential migrants in North Africa and inflict all manner of horrors upon them
- Put refugees in inflatable boats, ferry them back out to international waters, and dump them there
- Import literal slaves from North Korea, and put them to work on EU grant-funded works in plain sight

... all with nary an eyebrow raised at the "should we be acting like this?" level. The limits on treating desperate, wretched people like utter shit are certainly not coming from the Bend-free Banana Brigade in Brussels. You'd think we were past blaming them (or giving them credit) for the few remaining vestiges of human decency left in our domestic legal systems.

And she's on the Defence Select Committee...

You know what they say about military intelligence.
