Quick analogy for you.

Let's say you're unfortunate enough to fall into a river. No matter how good a swimmer you are, or if you did lifesaving as a kid, you're being swept out to sea. Someone walks past. They can:

C: get you out of the water.

Right, first of all, connectivity is pretty much essential these days. The cheapest way of achieving this is to use a mobile phone. A phone contract can be sourced for about £10 a month for a no frills deal. Cheaper than a landline, a laptop, or an iPad. Internet cafes closed down years ago, and access via public libraries is very limited, even if you take CV-19 distancing rules out of the equation.

They are not luxuries. They are also not your property to sell. You are leasing them from the provider.

The row at the heart of government over free school meals was laid bare on Monday night when the Treasury insisted Gavin Williamson had never asked for the extra money to fund the half-term extension.

Treasury sources said there had been no request from the education secretary for the £150m to provide meals for 1.4 million disadvantaged pupils during the holiday.

Not to defend Williamson, but this looks like he's being dumped on because he's on the way out anyway. The Chancellor, not to mention the Prime Minister, could have sorted it over his head. And where's the collective responsibility?
