It's that man again:
Tory MPs talk until law to pay interns the minimum wage runs out of time

[...]

Today it was Business Minister Margot James who was speaking when a bell closed the four-and-a-half-hour debate.

But the longest speeches came from Tory MPs David Nuttall and Philip Davies, who each spoke for more than an hour.

Tory MP Alec Shelbrooke said his National Minimum Wage (Workplace Internships) Bill - backed by Labour - would end the "scandal" of unpaid work as he blasted the "hypocrisy" of Vivienne Westwood.

The law ran out of time despite the House of Commons being almost empty

But in a 66-minute speech Philip Davies claimed it would be too restrictive.

If he wins the vote, he'll probably block everything the committee stands for - and if he loses, the poor little lamb's been martyred by the feminazis and the PC Brigade. And he probably knows it:
Tory Philip Davies who campaigned against 'militant feminists' elected to Parliament women's committee

Philip Davies, a Tory MP who said feminists only want equality "when it suits them" has been elected to Parliament's Women and Equalities committee.

Mr Davies has long campaigned against "militant feminism", and used a debate on International Men's Day to complain they "stir up division."

If confirmed by MPs, he will sit on the 11-strong group, which scrutinises the government's performance on issues of sex, gender identity, race, religion and sexual orientation.

The Labour party say they will challenge his appointment when Parliament votes to approve it.

Shocked by Philip Davies MP filibustering #IstanbulConvention Bill? This happens Every Sitting Friday! Handful of Tories do this every week.

Problem is getting the public to care. It happens all the time because they know they can get away with it.

mr angry manchester wrote:Exactly. What if I got up in a meeting at work and just droned on for half an hour about Bury's results and FA cup run in the 1975/6 season?
It would improve quite a few meetings I have been in.

I have noticed whenever this guy makes the news it's because he is being a cockrot.

There have been times when politicians have filibustered for what we'd consider good causes - there was a case a few years ago where a bunch of hard right types were looking to shut down a debate and cancel a vote on abortion in Texas - a woman filibustered to keep the debate open and force a vote. It's a tool and can be used for good and evil.

That said, Davies is a troll. He seems to pick his causes carefully to cause maximum offence, and seems quite proud of what he does.
