Correct. The scenarios are -

1, Early election with half decent Labour Party/Leader - Gove, Labour would win

2, Early election with Labour as it is currently - May - Labour lose, but less damaging than the other two

3, Four years away from election with competent Labour party - May again, for the same reason as above

4, Four years away from election with Labour in a mess (the closest to reality) - Once again, May, for the same reasons

Hence, it has to be May, I'm afraid

Plus, it might be mildly entertaining for about ten minutes to have a prime minister who shares her name with a porn star :D

Gove has been eliminated, so it's Leadsom (created by Nazi scientists as a response to Dame Vera Lynn) versus May.
Toby Young ‏@toadmeister

Now that Michael Gove is out of the race, I'm willing to support Theresa May on three conditions…

1. She commits to repealing the 1972 European Communities Act…

2. She changes her position on granting all EU nationals resident in the UK leave to remain…

3. She appoints Michael Gove to lead her Brexit negotiating team.

Well it looks like we are going to have another woman prime minister, like it was fucking great last time, wasn't it?

Just when I think 2016 has just delivered its last big dump on my head, it's been feeding its face on vindaloo and eggs and it's about to do another big steamer.

Quite a few right wing journalists seem to be having wet dreams at the prospects of Leadsom being the next prime minister. The problem with dreams is that even if she does become PM her party only has a very small majority in the commons and I can't see the likes of veteran MPs like Ken Clarke making a big effort to get in for important votes. There journalists also forget that Thatcher funded many of her initiatives via the selling off of public assets an option that won't be available to :Leadsom if the economy continues to flat-line.

I share your loathing for Thatcher, might even surpass it, but... turdz on hedz is turdz on hedz - regardless of gender. Don't judge all of womankind by Thatcher, the vast majority are pretty cool. Dark times ahead - for all of us. Man, woman and child.

It's the saucy matron factor. The public schoolboys in the membership all want a glimpse of Andrea's stocking tops.

Sadly I think Leadsom has got every chance of winning giving the nature of the electorate. Someone at the Guardian made the point that May isn't very good at networking but Leadsom will happily tour the country meeting members of Conservative associations telling them what they want to hear. Cameron was largely able to ignore the Conservative associations once he became leader and he probably pissed them off with his policies on Gay marriage etc.

Leadsom is the Tories's answer to Corbyn
