It was supposed to be a holiday. Twelve meetings and lots of meetings with charities?

Margaret Thatcher was a guest of the British embassy in Vienna which coincided with Chancellor Kohl's holiday in the City. She insisted on an unofficial two-hour meeting and Kohl relented. After berating him for 40 minutes Kohl's assistant rushed in claiming an important issue of state had arisen and apologised to Thatch who understood these things happen. She went for a walk only to see Kohl in a cafe eating cake and reading the paper.

:D

A place where I used to work had this boring old git who wouldn't shut up and used to go on and on at you while you were trying to work. A way of getting rid of him was to get one of the other lads to go to another part of the office and phone your extension, to make it look as if you had an incoming call

"boring bastard still there?"

"yep"

Those kind of characters can suck the life of you. An ex worked in an antique shop in which this E L Wisty type character would come in and bore her all day when customers were thin. She'd come home exhausted.

I have no idea how Bernard Jenkin's cogs work
Priti Patel made a mistake because she lacked training. These young ministers need support.

Number 10 instructed Development Secretary Priti Patel not to include her meeting with the Israel foreign ministry official Yuval Rotem in New York on 18 September in her list of undisclosed meetings with Israelis which was published on Monday, the JC has learned.

Ms Patel listed 12 meetings in the statement, and the emergence of two more last night is thought to have made her sacking imminent.

But the JC understands, from two different sources, that Ms Patel did disclose the meeting with Mr Rotem but was told by Number 10 not to include it as it would embarrass the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

In addition, the JC can reveal that although Ms Patel’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not authorised in advance, the British government was made aware of it within hours.

In other words; she was told to cover up those meetings and the word got out?

This story has just taken on a whole new dimension.

I'm sure dear old Bernard would be just as sympathetic if, in a parallel universe, Kate Osamor had made a similar mistake. Or indeed one of those treacherous Remoaners within his own party.

Israeli sources are suggesting that she visited a field hospital in the Golan Heights, which is classed as an occupied territory and British government officials visiting there is a no no.

Is there a possibility May knew about this and kept quiet about it?

On the lunchtime news, Andrew Marr was of the opinion that the PM is stuffed either way. If she sacks Patel she's got another enemy on the back benches. If she doesn't, she's either powerless or doesn't care about the rules.
