The culture is toxic. A civil servant friend of mine said that given the expected level of harassment, bullshit, bullying and JFDI management in Whitehall, whatever Patel did to cause the complaints had to be something pretty spectacular.

Short of rip it up and start again I'm not sure what can be done.

That works when you've got a bully with a single victim, it wouldn't change a mindset like theirs.
Indeed.

If there's any solace to be taken, it's this little morality play.
They've been positively selecting for bastards for 4 decades.
Now they've reached a point where the bastards are the mainstream.

And poor old Boris is about to become their whipping boy, what with all his "too much lockdown" and "not enough Brexit".

You might remember a while ago I was getting a bit excited about a Priti Patel "gaffe". This is it. (there's a typo in the second tweet- should be Home Secretary, not Cabinet Secretary, obviously). Absolute schoolboy stuff- tweeting about the most high profile case in the country. She ought to be out on her arse. Lord Falconer, Lammy and Starmer need to be calling for it.

I was watching Downfall this afternoon (because watching Nazis shoot themselves in the head gets funnier every time) and toward the end there's a gang of thugs prowling around Berlin lynching people while shouting that order must be maintained.

Patel would love a bit of that.

Patel was on BBC Breakfast this morning regarding the infamous tweet.

She knows she's untouchable, doesn't she?
She's not the only one. The whole inner cabal of government - Johnson, Hancock, Gove, Sunak, Patel - all know that they can do and say what they like and not only will they get away with it, but they'll be applauded. When Scotland gets independence there'll be an invasion of bright, decent people moving there to get away from this shitstorm.

Something entirely in the gift of Westminster, remember. Wee Nippy can jump up and down as much as she likes but it doesn't translate into a referendum.

The thought of a permanent Tory majority and getting rid of those ungrateful Jockos will see to that.
