In the spirit of straight-talking common sense, Gavin has "scrapped" Tony Blair's "target" of 50% going to "university". Except it wasn't all that much of a target (why would there be a cap on places if it were?) and it wasn't just university. So not sure how it can be scrapped?

People who say this stuff usually talk about the need for more vocational education. Lots of degrees are vocational of course:

Business is most popular degree subject in UK universities
And Blair's "target" included lots of vocational, non degree level courses. The idea everybody is idling about doing Marxism Studies is bollocks. But I suppose it'll not be long before that gets a run out over here.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Speaking as someone who went to the University of Life and School of hard knocks (Ofsted really needs to inspect them as they’re full of twats) until I was 46, Williamson’s remarks caught my eye. Among the things I learned from an MA in International Relations is that a daft cunt like Gavin Williamson shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near foreign affairs

Philip Hammond might have some good memoirs in him.
As long as he gets a racy hack to ghost it

Politics is a cruel business Hammond now sounds like a forgotten figure from a distant era. Can’t wait for Jeremy Who? next year.
