That's right, Anderson lost the Labour nomination vote for Metro Mayor to Rotherham. He would've been my MP but lost the Labour nomination vote to Dan Carden. He makes a lot of the fact he is the city's first directly elected mayor, as if it was him personally everyone voted for, ignorung the likelihood it could've been anyone from Labour and they would have got it. He's not a popular figure in the city, he's more ridiculed and thought of as shady than aggressively disliked. But as far as I'm concerned the sooner he is gone the better.

Yes, Labour has problems. Yes, antisemitism exists within the party. Yes, the hard left scare me sometimes, and I'm just about old enough to remember Militant.

But of the two main parties, which has the greater capacity to change, to address the problems within it, to get its own house in order? On the racism issue, Labour recognises it has a problem and works to tackle it.

The Tories seek to hide and deflect, and then quietly readmit the bigots when they sense the fuss has died down. On the matter of trust, Labour has been open - perhaps too open at times - about its faults. The Tories though have embraced and weaponised lying with gusto. Labour asks for the opportunity to govern, while the Tories see power as theirs by right. Labour sees the people as their priority, the Tories see us as the problem.

I don't want to know that this has convinced you or not, and I won't ever ask someone which way they voted. I have no formal qualifications in politics or psephology, just my experience of living under both parties. Vote how you think is right.

I tend now towards the Lib Dems. The Tories I hate and dismiss out of hand, my hatred of them really started with Thatcher, before her I sort of tolerated them. Labour do at least make some semblance of aiming to help the less fortunate, but they don't always get it right. I shifted to the Lib Dems in 2010, due to Iraq and the wasteful crackpot schemes which the Labour government launched, ID cards, casinos etc.

I don't like the hard left element and I think the way to go is to attract the sane, anti Brexit half of the country. Let's give Starmer a chance to see if he can do this

The problem is now that the Labour party is irrevocably split, more so than ever. This, allied to the fact that Scotland is now lost to the SNP, and might go for independence, means that I think we are cursed to eternal Tory rule.

The fact that they've been in now for 10 years, which has been financial hardship and buggering up of public services, and they STILL walk elections is so depressing.
